Quote from: Mups on March 08, 2025, 12:42:35 PMThey are saying now, that his wife died of a respiratory problem,  and he died of a heart problem and 'natural causes.'
Not heard a word about the poor dead dog?

It is said his wife died about a week before him,  so why on earth was no ambulance or medical help called?
Who would leave a dead body on the floor for a week?
I don't understand all this.
I'm sure I have heard that he was a bit doolally, so he probably forgot about her.  Sad.

He's had  Altzeimers
I expect  she was his carer.

Apparently she had just taken the dog to the vet and it was still crated when she died .
Poor thing .

It is all very sad..
Wife dies of natural causes..
Gene Hackman suffered dementia.. and the poor dog had been to the vet and still in cage..
They lived a very private life.. and probably saw no other person for weeks..

Dementia is a cruel illness.. and nobody knows what was going on in Gene Hackman's head..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Mups

Don't they have home carers in USA?
Why was couple of their age and  such poor health living alone with no help?

How on earth did they manage to keep and feed 2 large dogs if they were so poorly?

Ruthio

The saddest thing to my mind was that the adult kids, three of them, weren't in regular contact.
My kids would be asking questions if I wasn't in touch for more than 2 days never mind 10

They chose to be away from it all and very private..
We don't know the full story.. Perhaps they drifted away from the children..
My daughter gets in touch with me daily.. even if it's only a text.. But then , I have always be close to my children and grandchildren..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

It's very sad though, if there were no friends,  neighbours, family, or carers checking on them,  especially at their age.

Same with my daughter, text every single day around 9am. Usually over at the front drinking my morning latte and enjoying the ocean after my swim. If I haven't answered by 10am she'll phone.

Mups

You ladies who have children checking on them daily,  are so lucky.
I would be very happy bunny if my son checked in on me a bit more,  but maybe its the daughters who tend to do this more, do you think?

GrannyMac

I think so Mups.  My daughter usually rings on her way home from work. I speak to my son occasionally, more so to my daughter in law! I'm lucky, we get on well, not always the case.
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

My son will phone occasionally ...
I find it easier to chat to my daughter than my son..
Having good neighbours and friends makes life easier... I am very lucky that I am known locally and speak to many people.. in passing or working in my front garden..

Friends of the same age is good.. You can sit and talk about the pain that you are suffering..
.. and where the shop bargains are..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

My son never thinks of checking up, but if I need him he's there, steps right up. Neither of mine were happy with me when I decided to spend so much time up north with Dunc, we had several arguments about it. We 3 were very close during the final break up of my marriage and I saw my daughter everyday as we walked the dogs together, Sundays we always did something as a family together, or one of us just made Sunday Dinner in the bad weather. This went on for ten years and we all jogged along fine, then I went up North for a few days break and bumped into Dunc, spent a lot of the time with him and just talked and talked. I've known him since I was 12 years old, his older sister and I were great friends and I spent holidays with his family on the farm.

We have to make decisions in life.. sometimes big ones..
When they include our children and moving it can be very hard and heart wrenching..

But we have to grab happiness when we can.. Time passes so quickly and many things and opportunities are lost.. because we hesitated..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..
