Looking back I remember that Wish You Were Here holiday program always started directly after Christmas..
We used to look at it in awe.. All those foreign holiday places that Judith Chalmers visited along with Cliff Michelmore...
Only the posh went abroad back then.. We had never experienced flying.. A caravan holiday for us.. or maybe Pontins..
Then, all of a sudden the world became our oyster...
I think it was Freddy Laker who made is possible for the (poorer) folk to travel far..

Do you remember Wish You Were Here.. and your first trip abroad.. ?
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Yes I remember Judith Chalmers and Wish You Were Here, my first trip was to Paris on a propeller job

Mups

I have only been abroad once in my life,  and that was for my honeymoon many moons ago.  We went to Malta.
Hubby loved to travel,  he had been out in Oz for 3 years just before I met him,  but I'm a boring old home bird myself.

The only place I have always loved though is the coast.   I love the sand and sea,  I could watch the sea all day long,  particularly down in Cornwall.   I had a friend who lived in Penzance who I used to go and stay with.
I always said I would retire to down there one day, and end my days there.  I used to be on the estate agents mailing lists looking for a property, but it wasn't to be.

It  may sound strange,  but it always felt like I 'belonged' there, and like I was 'home' .

Nothing boring about you Mups.. Some can't sit still ..others are happy to stay where they are..
I have been to many places.. Lived in Australia for a while..

I know every crack in these dirty streets of Reigate.. Doesn't have quite the same effect as 'sidewalks of Broadway'..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

I have lived in other countries most of my life since I married at 20 and went to live in South America .
I loved it but I don't think I shall ever return but it is will always be in my heart

I have also always felt a spiritual connection to Australia where I have visited many times .

I wish they weren't so far away .

Scotland to Yorkshire.  A few foreign holidays, but I've not been outside Europe.  My kids and grandkids on the other hand......

Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

The young of today think nothing of hopping on a plane and travelling far..
We used to plan our caravan holidays months ahead.. and save up for the treats..
No credit cards back then..

I remember the woman who owned our local chippy bragging that she had an American Express card.. Everyone locally knew about it..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..
