My daughter Marnie makes her own.. She puts marzipan on the top of the mincemeat before adding the top pastry cover ..

On the radio today Vernon Kay, the presenter, tasted some mince pies .. he raved over them..
The person who made them added cream cheese before the top crust..
Vernon Kay said they were the best he had ever tasted..

Do you make your own mince pies.. Any new tricks.. ?
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

I haven't made my own for a few years now, I'd only eat them !  but I used to make them with a pecan nut topping which was a bit different. :upvote:
Yesterday I bought a box of 4 from the Asda, not very nice tbh - I think Aldi are nicer

I don't make them now either.  My contribution more recently was to make sausage rolls, but my son has taken that over, he makes really tasty ones.  He made some with sausage meat and black pudding, really nice.
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

ooooh sausage meat and black pudding  :upvote:   The local butcher makes pork & black pudding sausages, I haven't tried them yet as I like his pork & tomato sausages too much.

Pastry is my problem, I'm not very good at it !

I love them but as Mr M doesn't eat them or Christmas cake I don't make them just for me 🙁

Readymade pastry is excellent.. Even some chefs on the TV use It and recommend it..
I use it.. no problem at all.

Puff pastry is my weakness.
The problem with being retired is that you never get a day off

I agree.  My mum was an excellent cook, but she always used bought (Jusrol) puff pastry.  Supermarkets do their own brands now, they're fine too.

I don't like mince pies at all.
I remember trying one years ago,  and spat it out quick.   Funny, sweet taste.
I'm more of a savoury person myself so prefer sausage rolls.

He's often said that he doesn't like this time of year. I hope he's keeping ok.
