In the stores...
My mate will not use them.. She would rather stand in a queue and wait.. Sometimes we have a race to see who finishes first..

I use them occasionally .. Everything is fine until there is a problem and my checkout plays up..
I then have to wait for 'Assistance'..  What a carry on..
My mate stands waiting for me with a smug grin..

Which do you prefer.. Self or Help.. ?
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

I prefer the proper checkout, but will use the self service if I only have a couple of things and there's a line at the checkouts.

Self, whenever possible.  No particular reason (other than having to wait for the person in front of me at a normal checkout finishing off a conversation with the cashier, or waiting for them to finish packing, or wait for them to faff around with vouchers/store cards/credit cards.

My absolute preferred way is scan and ho.  No need to double pack anything.  Scan the till, scan the handset, scan the store card on my phone and tap the card machine.  Job done.

UNTIL, they decide to do a check on you.  :waiting:

Like Dex, both my wife and I prefer self-checkout and, yes, we have occasionally had to wait whilst an assistant does a quick check of a few random items in our bags.  It is, at least, a lot quicker than standing in a queue at the checkout.

I always use Self check out, my shopping pal gets confused so uses a till.  She's often 'out' before me !

I'm the same as Scrumpy said.   I occasionally use them, but only if I have got just a few bits,  not a big load.

I do curse though,  because nearly every single time the damn thing stops working and I have to wait for assistance,   so its probably no quicker at all in the end.

I think I hold the record for always having to ask for help at those self service machines 😡

That's why my local Lidl scrapped them I think. They rotate staff around roles and have minimum tills open if there are few customers at the checkouts. They'd have to have a staff member dedicated to the self checkouts - ok in big stores with half a dozen active self service checkouts but that only happens in big stores or small ones in busy locations where most customers only pick up a few bits - my local ASDA is like that. 3 tills and probably a dozen self checkouts.
