You can leave Alexa on when you go out.

klondike

You can leave a smart speaker playing any digital radio station you chose.

Already said I see. So it's a wot 'e said from me.

dextrous63

I fear we might need to get back to basics for Mups...

I thought you had to keep telling it what to do,  else it does nothing?

(Bit like some husbands apparently) . .

Alexa will shut up ONLY when you tell her to...

Stick with your Philips radio.. At least it is something you know..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

klondike

It shuts up when it gets to the end of what you told it to do so read the news stops so does play a specific tune but things like play smooth Northampton or whatever runs continuously.

Raven

If you asked him for a Philips one why did he get something else? In this case I don't see any reason for him to grumble.

Raven,  he said where he went hadn't got any Philips ones,  so he brought the Bush one instead.

People probably think I am so ungrateful,  but I wish he had just looked somewhere else instead.

I think he might be coming over tomorrow,  don't know for sure,  so will get it all boxed up ready incase.

dextrous63

You could say you liked it so much that you bought him one, and hand him the box with it in it😬.

klondike

It probably won't be the brand it will be the type of radio.

Mups

Oh well,   lets just hope the new one is easier to use.
It should be here tomorrow,  so fingers crossed.

I feel for you Mups.. My children buy me stuff.. stuff that really is too confusing for me..
Not wanting to sound ungrateful we accept with a thank you and a smile..
BUT... there are gadgets out there that are bloody frightening  to some of us..
There should be a store that sells stuff just for us..
'The Past It ' store.. I  would be happy with that..

There used to be a shop called  Past Times.. Does anyone remember it..?
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Alex

Yes I remember Past Times, a lovely shop  :upvote:

Thanks Scrumpy.

Trouble is,  they seem unable to write instructions for beginners any more.   Whoever writes these booklets seems to assume they are talking to a technical engineer or 15 year old whiz-kid.
I need instructions step-by-step and preferably with pictures!

Anyway,  my new Philips one has arrived and although I haven't yet found out a way of 'saving' a radio station,  at least I have found some stations I can now use,  which is at least a start.
One peculiar thing though,  it would be very helpful if the thing actually showed you which station I was on!

There is a little screen,  which I would assume gives this information as you scroll through stations,  but the screen is blank,  so at the moment I have to wait until the broadcaster announces what station he is on before I know.    Weird.

Pages and pages of instructions, in 18 languages,   but only 3 lines in English!!    Grrr . . . . .

You can put it down to one of life's surprises.. everyday..
