Looking at the instructions for a similar one it is pretty much what I expected. Push a button to get it into DAB mode and it should scan the band itself and present you with a list of stations to page through and select.

If you have no radio stations showing in the display then I'd suggest one or possibly more of these various problems exist.

It isn't powered on - if anything shows lights then it must be.

It isn't set to DAB radio use. Must be something showing it is I would have thought.

There is no signal.  Check the aerial is extended/plugged in or whatever makes sense with what you have.

The signal strength is poor. Try a different room. Upstairs maybe. If you can get it to work somewhere in the house but not where you want to use it then you are probably buggered.

It is faulty.

If none of that shows what is wrong then see what your daughter (I think you said) makes of it.

My guess assuming it isn't something you are doing wrong would be poor signal. The Northampton area is not well served with TV nor  from memory DAB signals.

I still have my 90s boom box in the kitchen and my big stereo in the den. I love them still, fabulous sound both have full bass switches and I love a good bass sound. Good job we have no immediate neighbours.

Thank you,  but  can't I have it in FM instead of DAB though?   I know the station numbers in FM easier.

I presume you can. I don't know the exact model you have and certainly have no user guide.

Btw there are no station numbers for DAB - just a list of names.

Thanks Klondike,  but I think I'm going to have to wait and see if my DIL can fix this for me.

Sometimes I honestly wonder if we wouldn't be better off without all this technology.
Our parents managed without it ok,  they worked,  had holidays,  went out and about, had friends and hobbies,  without all this  technical stuff.

Nowadays, people (especially the young ones)  wouldn't know how to cope without it,  but to me,  it has just made a lot of things uneccessarily difficult.

I love most of today's technology, BUT I can't get to grips with all of it, thank goodness for our kids and grandkids !

Well my son couldn't do it,  and I have no grandkids,  so my only hope is my DIL if they can get over here tomorrow.

Failing that,  if you really love today's technology Alex,  you'd better call in.

OR, Take it back to the shop and either change it for one you can work, OR, get them to show you how to work it all.

That's a good idea, Raven. :hmm:

Well,  what a let-down.

Still no progress, and my family never turned up.
I have got one station,  and that's all.

Can't ask my neighbours,  because one side he is in his 80's and wouldn't have a clue, and the other side is a bloke that gives me the willy's,  so sure don't want him in here.

I've looked into taking it back,  but then realised I'd put the damn box in the dustbin!!

Alex

Mups, tell us the exact make and model of the radio, sure Klondy or Diasu will help, but I imagine they'd need to know which radio you've got  :upvote:

Alex,  I've got the instruction book,  but the buttons don't seem to work like they say in the instructions.

It is the model I posted back in Post 14.
Bush Carnaby DAB + CD Boombox.

It's just a small one that I can keep on my worktop.

If you've got one then there should be more as each frequency carries a bunch of radio stations. Are you unable to scroll through to see more stations in the display?

It does seem to me that it may not be sensitive enough for the low strength signals you have where you are. I had to put up an aerial for dab to work downstairs. It's easier now to just use a smart speaker though so if it was Argos you got it from just take it back. Anywhere else check their returns policy but just not working where you live should be good enough.
