A massive Brexit row threatens to erupt after the European Union announced plans to take the UK to court over its tough new rules to protect puffins.

UK says overfishing of sand eels has depleted populations, with a "devastating" impact on seabirds such as puffins.

A seabird census in 2023 found that the breeding of more than half the seabird species along the coasts of Britain and Ireland has declined in the last 20 years.  Danish fishing vessels are the most affected by the ban as they catch 250,000 tonnes of sand-eels annually in British waters.

SO, how will the son of a toolmaker calm the waters with his EU buddies  ?

It's true, the puffin's are starving to death in some areas. We noticed last summer that there was less on the cliffs than usual.
The EU, IMO, should not be free to fish in our waters.

There's an appropriately named island off the east coast of Anglesey called Puffin Island.  I wonder if that's been affected.  No idea if the Irish Sea gets fished that much.

I agree with Raven,  stop the foreign fishing boats.
One day there won't even be enough for our fishermen,  if this continues.

It is not just the fishing though,  it is for other wildlife that depend on fish for their survival.
WE don't depend on crabs and cod fillets for survival, do we!   We have other choices, but the fish dependent animals don't.
