What do others think about Tesco's latest shopping idea?   See this:

*

" Tesco could use Clubcard data to warn shoppers when they are buying too many unhealthy items, its chief executive has said.
The boss of Britain's biggest supermarket said he expected to use artificial intelligence (AI) to monitor how customers were shopping to help "nudge" people into making healthier choices. "

*

I'm not sure how it works  as yet,  but apparently as you put good in your trolley, something tells you if you are buying unhealthy food or not. Do they think we are all complete embeciles?
For those who buy a trolley full of junk food, do they honestly think their daft idea will stop them?

How would you feel about being spied  on with some kind of artificial intelligence as you shop, and something checking every single think you want to buy?

Personally it would put me off ever shopping there again.    I will not be dictated to like that.   At my age I shall buy what I ruddy well want.

If they are stocking that much unhealthy stuff,  maybe they would do better to clear their shelves and only sell low calorie health food type stuff,  rather than tell us what we should and should not buy!

Thank you Klondike.

I'm sure one day in the future humans will all have to be micro chipped at birth,  so 'they' can control us with some sort of remote control gadget.

Well, I suppose there are a lot of thicko lazy chavs out there who don't have any idea about eating healthily.

But isn't that still their choice, Dex?  Ingredients are  all written on the labels,  (except things like fresh fish etc),  but if they can't be bothered to read a label its their own fault.

Surely there can't be anyone who doesn't know its not a good idea to have 6 bars of chocolate for breakfast!

Anyway,  like I replied to Klondike,  if certain foods are that unhealthy,  why do they even stock them if they don't want anyone to buy them!

There's a Greggs cafe in our shopping precinct. I don't think they sell anything remotely healthy, but they are cheap and pastry and cakes are tempting! 🥮  It's busy.
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

People's choice. Personally I'm getting fed up with AI butting into my life.  :yell:

I asked ChatGPT to respond.  It said...

It's understandable to feel that way. Technology, including AI, can sometimes feel invasive or overwhelming. It's important to find a balance that works for you and to set boundaries around how much you engage with it. Conversations about the role of AI in our lives are important, and it's okay to express your concerns. What specific aspects of AI are bothering you the most?

Profit, coupled with the concept that treats are treats.

Anyway, we know that data is collected regarding our shopping habits anyway, which is why the pop up ads you get will be partly individualised.   So what if Tesco and others try to use it in a different way?  It's not mandatory to read it, yet alone act upon it.

It'll probably result in clubcards being binned. This is only the beginning. The nutcases trying to rule the world would actually prevent you from buying things when you reach your limit. I've practically stopped using Tesco since they stopped selling large bottles of milk, and if I buy sweets and cakes they have no idea who I am feeding and for what period.

Exactly my thoughts, Tesco have its own branch of the thought police.

Without dipping too much into the crazy world of conspiracy theories, do you not think that we have all been manipulated through subliminal messaging already?

I've seen some big people out there..
If I feel that my jeans are getting a bit tight.. I cut back on the (bad) stuff.. Because I have the sense to do so.. but it is my choice.. I don't need anybody to tell me what to buy..
Alas , not all people are born with common sense..
I have seen fat people hanging around in the sweets/ chocolate aisle..
I have seen them in the crisps.. puddings.. cream aisle.. Their choice..
Looking at the size and determination on their faces I wouldn't want to tell them that they (shouldn't)..  The sad thing is they usually have fat children in tow..

And, one more thing.. They cost the NHS a few bob too.. with the problems that being overweight can cause..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Quite interesting - however, as far as I know some people can't afford buying only healthy food - at least here in Germany - because it's much too expensive for them. Moreover, many people prefer buying ready-made food (not really healthy), because it saves time or they no longer know how to cook a healthy dish.
In my opinion it should be quite difficult to control whether people buy healthy or junk food and you are right the only way would be to sell only healthy food at a reasonable price.
