Londoners believed that whoever ate an Oyster today would never want for money all the year: but the more usually accepted doctrine is that Oysters are only wholesome when there is an 'R' in the month.

"Greengrocers rise at dawn of sun,
August the fifth - come haste away.
To Billingsgate the thousands run -
'Tis Oyster Day, 'Tis Oyster Day!"

I have never eaten an oyster..
I can't understand what the attraction is.. How do people know what they taste like if they are just swallowed and not chewed. ?
Or have I got that wrong.?
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

They are supposed to be an aphrodisiac. Sound disgusting to me though.

Only the raw ones are swallowed whole.  Roast Oysters are quite nice.
