Ridiculous

Currently reading a detective story, one element of which is a gang organizing muggers and house breakers to steal male designer street wear. One detective asks why they would be bothered only to be told the items they are targeting are very valuable – thousands of pounds for trainers, jackets, etc.
I thought 'come on, there is artistic licence, but this is ridiculous'. Then, out of idle curiosity (I'm good at that) I looked on E-bay for men's trainers. The most expensive? £130,000! There was another pair at a grand and plenty over £50k. Surely that really is ridiculous?

Not shopping in Matalan or George then   I always head there and to Bonmarche when I am in Perth.

Must say I simply cannot understand the mindset - talk about more money than sense!

My neighbour's nephew buys top brand trainers as soon as new design comes out, he's only allowed to buy a certain number so he sometimes uses my address to circumvent it.

Not the prices you have quoted but still around £150 a pair which he can sell for £250 a pair when demand outstrips supply.

He makes a good earner out of it.

can't remember how much my trainers cost (haeven't worn them for at least two or three years - just haven't had trainer weather) but it was nothing like that much

They can be quite cheap. Better brand names start at about £70.

I'm sure that I didn't pay that much - don't care about brand - just two questions - do they fit comfortably and do they seem likely to last a reasonable amount of time?

The brand names may be overpriced but the nonames tend to be crap that don't last long. As you say you don't wear yours cheap ones will last forever and never hurt your feet.

I checked mine. Sketchers £45. Teenagers would die first.

Good old Skechers and Pavers for me.. chosen for comfort as well as the look.. I pay around 100 pounds.. Nothing sparkly..

I don't wear mine often, certainly not last year nor, so far, this, but I do wear them from time to time. Not sure, but I they came up here from Haslemere with us, which would make them over 20 years old

Skechers for me too. I have several pairs, the oldest ones are my gardening shoes.
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖
