If your up through the night have a look out of your window, you could be in for quite a show. I know I often see the lights and a lot of you don't so don't miss out tonight, they are well worth watching.

For the first time since January 2005, the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center in America has issued a Severe Geomagnetic Storm Watch.

It means it could provide one of the best viewing opportunities to see the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) for the whole of the UK.

A sunspot, an area of high solar activity, 16 times wider than Earth, has a number of solar flares and complex Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) which are currently hurtling towards planet Earth. It's due to arrive Friday night but may continue to be seen Saturday night too.

Although it won't be confirmed until after the event has reached Earth, there are signs tonight's Severe Geomagnetic Storm will be the strongest since 2005.

This will mean it's likely all of the UK (cloud permitting) should be able to see the the Aurora tonight if you look north

Of course if it turns out like every other astronomical bonanza I've been promised I'll see nowt.

Fingers crossed it happens for you this time. 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

I'd love to see an aurora. Might be my last chance unless I take a special trip and that isn't likely to happen.

Not many stars and no sign of an aurora yet. I'll try again a bit later but not very late as I'll be off out tomorrow.

My daughter took some good photos in Manchester.  She's always wanted to see it, even traveling to Iceland but that was a bit of a failure.

Martha and Hattie (grandchildren) took some fantastic pics last night.. Hampshire and Surrey.
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

I saw it when I looked around 11:30 last night. I should probably have driven out into the country as the town lights were competing.

I was asleep at the time..

Does anyone know whether the show will be on tonight?

My grandaughter caught it on her phone, in Cheshire.  We forgot.
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

Thanks.  It says best after 10.30pm, so I'll kick Marge out of bed then and tell her to go and have a look!

Make sure she takes her phone to bring you some pics.

It's OK.  I have been 'persuaded' to go with her.
