Trust me ! what was the poll about ?

Gardening tip. Never plant ivy. At some point when it is a monster you will decide it has to go. I just spent most of today chopping one down and shredding it. There are better ways to spend a day.

A miserable old grey day here, and chilly too. I suppose we must expect this now its November.

Son and DIL popped over to see me, which was nice.
That's about it.

Quote from: Dextrous63 on Today at 12:50:43 PMNot a fight Scrumpo. If Klondy wants to create a poll, he's welcome to do so.

But he's looking for answers to a different question, and didn't let me find the answers to mine.

Fair enough. His forum.

What I did was add a don't know to the yes and no options and prefaced the question with read the thread before posting. The question itself was not changed.
I also explained why I wasn't in favour in the thread. If people are going to vote to have something which imo would be detrimental to the forum they should read any pros and cons. I put a case for the cons. Dex could have put a case for the pros.

Obviously Dex must have understood the case for the cons, couldn't think of any pros other than he fancied one so in a fit of pique deleted the poll.

Don't really understand why you're missing the point about your un-asked-for interference with my poll as being the issue.

The way I see it regarding the button, from the replies made so far is that some would like it, some wouldn't and some don't see the point. That's all I was asking and it's a yes/no answer. If someone doesn't know then they won't have voted.

It wasn't meant as a discussion/debate point.

Some might have used the button from time to time, and some might adhere to posting a thumbs up or a smile as per norm. Some might even mix their response.

Just 'cos it's an available feature wouldn't have made it mandatory. Indeed, after a week or so it might have proven itself entirely useless and barely used and thus be removed. Or it may have become a (cusiously) useful thing to have.

But I guess we'll never know now.
Good call. 🙄

Without a like button you aren't going to know if they read it.

The reason I changed it was because I'd promised to add the feature if there was a respectable majority saying they wanted one. I believe a like button is detrimental on small forums such as this for the reason I gave which you deleted with the entire thread.

The AI response which I could but won't repeat here made it clear why it most probably would be used rather than posting a reply and why that would be detrimental. Did you bother to read it? I can add it again here easily enough but CBA to recreate my personal view which as it happens was pretty much the same.

Dextrous63

There are around 8-10 of us on here klondy, with at least a couple taking a sabbatical from forum life in general.

I doubt that a like button would make much difference to the posting rate. As I keep on saying... it'd be for a trial period initially. If it proved to be detrimental, iirc turning it off is no big deal.

As for the poll- it was my poll, not yours. You changed it, and the variables I wanted to measure. Ergo, it's no longer my poll, so I got rid of it.

And yes, I did read Gemini.

Put it up on another forum then.

The only replies I've seen so fat are why and the last I saw of the voting late last night was 1 for 2 against and I hadn't voted.

The low posting volume here and shortage of users is exactly why I don't want a like button. Come to that I've no idea if it is a standard feature or if there is a mod to add one. Like buttons are for social media and the likes of YouTube who use it to decide what of millions of videos in front of someone logging in. I don't recall ever seeing one on a forum and I've seen a lot of forums over the years.

It is certainly not easy to get rid of it, is it.
I have got it coming through the fence from next door on one side, and another lot coming through the fence from the neighbours that back onto me too.

I noticed the other day that the family in the rented house across the road, have got it climbing rapidly up their satellite dish cable!
