It's like I said to Scrumpy,  if I kept some lenses but jkust wanted to change a broken frame,  if I chose some frames from somewhere online,  how do I know if my lenses would fit in them as there are all different shaped lenses.

They wouldn't.

You can get cheap glasses to your prescription online (I think - may not cover complex prescriptions) but you'd need to tweak the frames to make them fit properly. Not something I've ever chanced. Cheap(ish) reading glasses are good enough for most people and I have some for fiddly tasks but I also use a lighted magnifier on a stand sometimes.

I've used the Specsavers two for one apart from paying for coatings on the extra pair for years. I always keep the prior prescription as mine change little now. I use prior prescription sunglasses and the latest ones I picked a pair for driving or occasionally TV and the other pair with larger lenses for shooting - you can occasionally get hit with fragments from broken clays and eye protection is compulsory at virtually all clay grounds.

I've noticed that my eyes get tired after longish periods on the laptop. I've been working on something and then the word games and now here and I notice it. Can't really use any of my glasses for it either.

Yes, the bifocals do take some getting used to,  but on the positive side, it saves me having to keep swapping to another pair of glasses according to what I'm doing.    At least with these I can see distance, and close up too.

How does it work buying from somewhere like Vision Express - or anywhere online? 
Do you have to get a prescription for the lenses  from somewhere else first? 
And how can you get the size right  without trying them on before you buy?

As Granny says, Varifocals are much better than bifocals.  No sudden change in the lens.  Perhaps they are a little more expensive, but worth it in my opinion.

Specially with the two for ones at Specsavers.  I'm fussy about the look because I have to wear them when I go out, and they have a decent selection.

I only wear them for watching telly and driving. Keep a pair in the car dash and a pair on a shelf in the day room. I get my eye test and new glasses down in Perth at Vision Express, we only have the one optician up here but I kept going to Vision Express, no point in changing when I'm in Perth several times a year. They always seem to have bargain deals going for 2 pairs, so it's a bit cheaper.

Looks like the nearest Vision Express to me is about half an hours drive away.   
There isn't one in my town, or the next nearest town either,  unfortunately.

Oh well,  I shall be seeing my usual optician tomorrow afternoon, they managed to bring my appointment forward a bit for me.   I will see what she says tomorrow.

On a different subject,  I sent for one of those miniature sets of gardening tools today.
It is only a tiny trowel and a little rake about 7" long.  It is to use in my pots and tubs as I have lost my other mini rake.

Anyway,  this evening I received an email saying it is being dispatched,  BUT,  it is subject to  'Age Restricted
Delivery'   and I will have to show a valid ID when it arrives!!!   Ey?? 

Has the world gone mad?    People seem to  buy all sorts of weapons online,   yet apparently I need some ID to receive a bloody garden trowel and rake.   I can hardly believe it.

Amongst the "possibly useful" odds and ends in Lidl I saw some epoxy putty like this but a cheap brand..



It got an age check alert at the self checkout. Maybe they thought I'd be sniffing it or possibly some other abuse I daren't speculate upon.

Of course the stuff itself will hang around in my "possibly useful" odds and ends box until I find some job it can be used for. By that time it will doubtless be solid and useless.

We used to have a local drunk..
We called him Ginger John... He always  pushed a bike.. I never saw him ride it..
He would knock on the the door and ask  'Can I borrow a couple of pounds from you'
I would tell him 'No'.. He would say that he needed 'Entrance fee' to go to the local pub ..
He then would ask for Sam.. I would say 'Sam say's no as well'
Good old days eh!!
