Can well imagine it Mups.

My MiL's estate is pretty simple.  Money in the bank, a few smallish items worth a few quid (nothing overly excessive), and her flat.  Non of it gets close to IHT threshold, so should be straightforward.  Anyway, I paid the gov its £300 fee, and just need to sent the paperwork.

No family issues for my wife to contend with.  Which is a bonus, although it obviously meant she had to do all of the caring and funeral stuff.

It's the government fee for probate.  We even get a certificate "for free" when it's done.  Additional certificates are a bargain at £1.50 each.

Then there was one nightmare family member trying every trick in the book to get Mum's house keys off me so as he could nick as many of Mum's belongings as he could!    I could certainly have done without all those arguments on top of everything else.    I was worn to a shred.

I bet you can hold your own when you need to Mups...
