I used to have a postal vote but cancelled it. The polling station is nearer than the postbox.

Lovely morning here.. Expecting a Amazon delivery.. Compost.. Very exciting..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

A lot cooler here this morning, but it's still sunny.  I need some more plants to fill my empty pots, so hopefully a quick trip to garden centre.  My grandson arriving about 12.30 to spend the afternoon with me

Today I might attempt a job I hate  -  defrosting the freezer.

I have a smaller upright one in the kitchen,  but the worst one is a  very old freezer which has always been kept  out in the shed.  It's one of those jobs I keep meaning to do,  but keep putting it off.
Now the old one outside has so much thick ice built up,  that I don't know where to start.

Has anyone got any good ideas on the best, and quickest way to de-ice a badly iced up chest freezer please?

Raven

I used to leave the door wide for about 30 minutes then get the hairdryer on it, hottest level and my old blunt butter knife to chip away and loosen.
Came off in big chunks didn't take long really.

Alex

A pan of boiling water and close the door was one trick I used to do.

Thanks Raven & Alex.
What bothers me though, is being as its a chest freezer all the melted ice will make a virtual swimming pool at the bottom of the freezer and I can't just sweep it out the door like an upright one.

Its times like this when it would be handy to have someone here to hold my ankles when I dive over the side to reach to the bottom!      I suppose I can only use towels to keep blotting it up really.

I suppose it might melt qluicker on a nice warm day like this,  but on the other hand,  so will the food I have taken out!

Who remembers Englebert Humperdink?
I have just seen he is 89 today,  doesn't time fly.   I can still 'hear' him singing 'Please Release Me.'

Anyway,  he has just made a new album apparently.
I hope for his sake its good,  because I think there is something rather sad when the oldies come-backs flops.   Sometimes its best they retire on a good note rather than try to recreate their younger days, don't you think?

My last chest freezer had a drain hole and a pull out spout at the bottom.

I have an upright freezer in the kitchen.. All very nice to look at but, I have to defrost it.. I use pots of boiled water and shut the door.. I have to replace the water a couple of times..

Just had a couple of spots of rain ☔️ ..False alarm .. nothing more..

Bit of a recap on our house buying saga
Daughter has accepted the offer on her home at the asking price and has had her offer on our new home accepted.
The plan being Mrs Vlad and I will move in with her and family and then flog our gaff. I am sort of excited but it's now a waiting game and the chain game.

Better than waiting for a buyer. Hope the chain isn't too long and there are no dropouts.

When this house gets sold the local skip company will be busy. Every once in a while I have a blitz and the dustbin gets close to immoveable or the charity clothes bin across the road gets filled but I swear the stuff just breeds. I've chucked out boxes full of cables but there are always more.

I have approx 40 years of rubbish, all of it precious, it will be heartbreaking emptying the shed..I have wood in there, I know that if I throw it away I will NEED it the very next day

Got my fingers crossed for you Vladsy.
Hope it goes through smoothly for you all.  :upvote:

I know what you mean about the wood. I too have a collection. Tubing too of various sizes  and materials. Plus assorted short lengths of mains and TV cable that will surely be needed.

There is a collection of small poundshop paint rollers. I found one ideal for reaching the back of the summerhouse wedged on a piece of pipe. So useful that on several occasions I picked one up if I saw it in the poundshop as I recalled how useful one had been but not that I had bought one a few months prior.

And naturally several boxes of completely unused mixed screws, nuts, washers, heatshrink tube etc. Often several of each type when the earlier purchase has been forgotten.
