He's not eating anything, nor drinking, so those meds will have to wait.

The antibiotic tablets won't wait though and will have to be shoved down his unwilling throat.  Expect carnage and tears (mine, that is)

Quote from: Vlad on April 11, 2025, 06:13:36 PMYes indeed, and thank you for your concern. My mind is exceptionally quiet today. I am suspicious I'm up to something I don't want me to know about.
I suspect you're toying with re-telling the dettol and wire brush joke in case anyone hasn't heard it😉😬

As someone trained in hand to hand combat, have you any advice to impart?

Hell yes..full body armour, a stun gun but let some bugger else do it. And that's why I am a dog person, Fang der Wunderhund will swallow anything wrapped in ham.

Excellent.  Will nip down to Moss Side in a bit and get tooled up.

Hope the head of the family recovers quickly. I recall our last dogs were very reluctant to take medicine and the only reliable way was to sort of pea shoot pills down their throats. A pill in the middle of a tasty treat (cheese was one favourite) would result in the cheese vanishing and the pill spat out on the floor.

Thanks.  Yep, cats also perform some kind of Penn and Teller Fool Us trick to separate and eject the tablet from the food while it's mid-esophagus.

Scrumpy

Dextrous... So, so pleased about your cat..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Thanks Scrumps. Major relief!!!

Those were Yorkies. Most of the other dogs we had over the years were bigger and absolute pigs where any food item just vanished.

You can crush the pills between a couple of spoons and as I said hide the powder in something the cat likes.
Tunnocks Teacakes were my way to pills, cut one in half and push pill into the white bit, didn't touch the sides.

That's what I do with the dogs too, Raven  (unless its a capsule of course).
They can't spit powder out because it sticks to the saliva,  but its easier to hide in their food anyway.

My dogs are pretty good though,  which is just as well because Liffey has had to have twice daily meds for the past three years!  She's a good girl though, and all I need to do with hers is roll the capsule up in a thin slice of meat.   Failing that,  hide it in a teaspoonful of cream cheese.

Luckily Gertie's daily Pro-biotics are nice and palateable,  so she eats them like a treat.

It should do, hollow out a piece of chicken and pour the powder in, replug it with the hollowed out bit of chicken. I would also give the cat a piece of chick en only first, just incase it's suspicious, that should help. Also don't fix the doctored chicken in front of the cat.

My Maggiemay was excellent at meds, if it came from me it was trusted and gobbled. Pashka was wary but I used the clean treat first followed up with the doctored one. Dageus was hit n miss untill I started using Tunnocks Teacakes.

Quote from: dextrous63 on April 11, 2025, 02:52:32 PMMy 16 year old cat hasn't drunk nor eaten anything for nearly two days.  He wants to, but there's obviously something stopping him.

Vets later.  Am very worried.  If he needs an anaesthetic, I fear that he might not wake up from it given his age and slender figure.
Dex,  just a thought,  but he hasn't got a bad tooth hurting him,  has he?
That could make it painful to chew anything,  same as us.

Did the vets say where they thought the infection was coming from?
