Quite why there is any Pride flag is beyond me or at least why it appears anywhere other than at pride marches. Carried by the participants that is and not the Macarena dance troupe in their clown cars wearing police hats. Anyway....

To Infinity and Beyond! Latest LGBTQIAP2S  Pride Flag Features Rainbow Infinity Symbol

The latest update to the ever-evolving LGBTQIAP2S  Pride flag now literally includes an infinity sign intended to symbolise autistic people.

Valentino Vecchietti, the creator of the 'Intersex Inclusive Pride' flag, which added a yellow chevron and a purple circle to the 'Progress Pride' flag in order to symbolise intersex people — those who are born with ambiguities in their sexual organs  — has updated the flag, as apparently, it was not inclusive enough.

Despite previously claiming that her flag was a "flag for everyone", Vecchietti evidently evolved on this thinking and saw fit to add a rainbow-coloured infinity symbol to "recognise the broad and varied experiences of those with neurodiversity who wish to feel visibly included in our Pride flag."

Vecchietti, who goes by she/they pronouns, added: "I hope it brings you joy this Pride Season. The detail of the flag: the rainbow infinity symbol touches every colour and every section of our Pride flag. I am happy to freely share the flag files of this version of the Intersex-Inclusive Pride flag.

"I created this version of my flag simply as an offering for those who wish for it. Please remember that there is already an Autistic Pride flag which you can download on wikipaedia: it has the rainbow infinity symbol on a yellow background."

I notice that Lawrence Fox was in the news yesterday after publishing a video of him burning some in his back yard. I disagree with gaining cheap publicity that way as it also publicises this ridiculous flag which to my mind is better totally ignored.

60 years ago Autism didn't exist, there were just naughty kids & there were thick kids who were classed as ESN.

Autism etc has been coined by whacky psychologists to excuse / justify bad behavior & to reclassify thick ESN kids as 'gifted'.

If we give groups/people a free hand then we must accept the consequences..
If we put silly ideas into children's minds about what they wish to be known as , be it animal or human then we must accept it..
There are people out there who are 'mocking' us..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

It almost makes me believe in Gods. Has Zeus had a wager with Odin on what nutty thing he can make the mortals go with next?

I agree completely.
There have always been naughty kids and thick kids.

In the good old days, naughty kids were given a clear warning and, if that didn't work, a good clout to make it clear.  I know, cos I've been there!  Not permitted now, of course.

Thick kids, and there always will be some as that is simply natural, were, as you say, referred to as Educationally Sub-Normal, and taught in specialist schools where appropriate expertise was available.
Unfortunately (for both them and the rest of us) the 'experts' have decided that they are now taught in general classes alongside 'normal' children.  I know this first-hand.
Not only does this mean that the rest of the class is held back, either due to slow progress through lessons, or due to bad behaviour which has to be excused.

In each of these two cases, the dusky persons in the woodpile are the various authorities which, for reasons best known to themselves, have dictated that the old ideas which worked have had to be ended in favour of trendy ideas which don't work.

The "pride" flag is not good enough to be recycled into loo roll in my opinion.

It certainly isn't!

I'm very particular about what goes near my arse.

One of the children in our family is in a special class within a mainstream school.  Not all children who have autism or other learning difficulties are thick.  For instance those with dyslexia can't process words like most of us. That is now recognised and they can learn by different methods.

If they were blind or deaf they would be taught appropriately. Why mock those whose damage is unseen?  They are often easy targets for bullies. That doesn't mean I don't believe there is not poor parenting, of course there is. Some parents seem incapable of setting boundaries.  Plus there's the attraction of benefits in some quarters.

I agree.  There is a wide range of disabilities and, as you say, many if not most of them are not simply 'thick'.  (I suppose it depends how that word is actually used.)

Again, not only is it better for the child to have specialist teaching and not placed in a mainstream class, for the reasons you give about bullying, for example, but also because mainstream teachers (as I was) are not trained to deal with such 'special needs'.  Under the present system, I asked the teaching assistant to sit with the 'least able group' (though I didn't call them that!) including the 'special needs' child who actually (in my opinion) exhibited behavioural problems apart from anything else.
There were also occasional visits by a specialist teacher who did what she could by taking the child out of class.

No, I still believe that special needs schools, with teachers having specialist knowledge and providing more one-to-one attention, are the ideal but, of course, they cost more money!

How much more are they going to add to that flag? Perhaps another stripe and letter for those with piles?

It wasn't adding autism as such it's the whole flag thing I object to.

GrannyMac

I think its ridiculous to add autism or any other condition to the flag.  I've never had a problem with gay people being treated equally, and I can understand why they celebrated decriminalisation.  Like so many things its all gone tooooo far.
