so it looks as if Westminster has found the courage to veto Sturgeon's tendentious gender change law, which I am convinced she only ever introduced to provoke Westminster so that she could claim 'Scottish democracy' was being traduced. An appalling piece of legislation which would allow any male over 16 to declare himself to be female and demand access to female only spaces - no medical diagnosis required.
I cannot believe the measure actually has the support of a majority of Scots, just another SNP/Green spiteful goading of Westminster

Alex

Did it have the support of the majority of Scots, or was it just SNP supporters ?   I'm glad Sunak has vetoed this ridiculous law, but of course it gives the nationalists more ammo

Jacqueline

I doubt most ordinary Scottish people want this rubbish any more than I would.

Alex

I wonder why ' ordinary Scottish people' keep voting SNP   ?   I have no idea, no alternative I suppose.

I think it's because some want independence, most  hate the Tories and others have fallen out with Labour.  Like us many vote more against some bunch of politicians rather than for one. Least worst option

Jacqueline

I am glad the government have blocked this, so much wrong with it, doesn't protect real women at all.  My take on this is if you have lived in your new gender,  i.e. changed your pronouns to she for three months without any medical intervention, all your bits intact you can have a new Birth Certificate and you are legally a woman, crazy, crazy and more crazy. Surely even a trans person can see this is wrong.  Why were all those idiots in the Scottish Assembly so for this? why would any real women think it is right?

I believe, as a Scot who grew up and was educated in Scotland, that its more tribal than that. The name Scottish Nationalists stirs the blood, and there is a strong feeling in some quarters that Scotland has always been treated unfairly.  I think many SNP voters don't look at the policies, the name is enough.

I haven't seen any poll results, but numerous articles in the Telegraph over the last few weeks all claim that an overwhelming majority of Scots and Scottish residents do not support this crazy bill (it's not an act now that Section 35 has been invoked). I am positive that it is yet another attempt by the SNP to create a fight with Westminster - that I can understand, but why did Scottish Labour support it?
Juts think - had it become law, a randy 15 year old in a mixed school could set things in motion so that once he reached 16 years of age he could demand access to the girls toilets and changing rooms and claim sexual discrimination if he was denied. Or - and this one really stinks - a rapist, upon conviction, provided that he has played his cards right, can demand to be incarcerated in a woman's prison. The Tories tabled an amendment to prevent this - it was voted down - can you believe such idiocy?

Conspiracy theory incoming

Similar absurd and disturbing laws have been made in all four corners of the globe in the last few months. These devils are following an agenda to destabilise the countries where this is being done.

Michael Rolls

I see Sturgeon is going to take the issue to court - more Scottish taxpayers' money to be wasted to feed her ego

All these local councils don't seem to realise that they have certain powers but they are limited. Just because they go to common purpose courses and try to push their boundaries, the boundaries do not move and they are acting beyond their authority.

Ashy, I agree with you, these things don't come alone and are being forced upon us by who I do not know, but some shady lot somewhere. You don't get things like this in muslim countries or Africa do you? just the west.
