Slipping and sliding..

Scrumpy

I had to go out today for some much needed veg..
I didn't take the car, I am not a confident enough driver on icy roads.. Very hilly in these parts..
I gingerly walked to local shop.. The pavement was patchy with ice that looked like glass in the sunlight.. Sometimes I walked in the road.. sometimes on the opposite pavement.. I must have looked (interesting) to others..
But I don't care.. Just imagine falling down and breaking something in this day and age.. !! I could be laying there for hours and hours waiting for an ambulance..
My daughter would go potty if she knew.. I don't tell her everything though..
I bet the men on here think me a wuss because I don't like to drive on icy roads..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Sheila

I walked carefully down our path, looked at the pavement, turned around, went back in and closed the door!  I am now sitting under my heated throw making out a food plan until after Christmas ready for a big shop tomorrow.

Scrumpy

I managed to get a Tesco slot.. next Tuesday..
I am away for Christmas but I did put turkey on my list..
Will freeze it and use later.. I love a bit of turkey with pickle ..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Our roads get gritted. The pavements don't. I think walking was a bigger risk than driving but clearing the car would have been a pain.

the main roads are OK, but some of the lanes (which never see a gritter) are a bit dicey

I'm back to wearing my ice grips on my boots. I'd break my neck without them. One of the best things I ever bought.  :yay:

I know where you live Mike, and I wouldn't venture out without them if I lived around that area either.

good advice - I haven't walked anywhere, other than on safe pavements, for the last few days but we have just had an inch and half or so of snow - just stopped - on top of the frozen covering from earlier in the week. Very nasty to walk on.

I'm more afraid of slipping on the pavements than skidding on icy roads, I'll have to venture out today but my pipes haven't defrosted yet so think it will have to be a quick trip to Cheshiure Oaks to pick up order from M & S then back.

Forecast here is freezing all day and I have to go back to the hospital which is bus and walk. I may get a taxi home if it's late. They were running best part of 3 hours late the other day. Hopefully this visit will end it but as its another test it may start a whole new damned saga. I hope not.

Alex

Good luck today Klondy, taxi sounds a good idea to me !

Scrumpy

I hope all goes well at the hospital Mark..
I need to go out today.. I need an onion for my chicken stew..

Thanks.

They are checking on something from an MRI. I was clear on the initial reason for doing that and this is something else.

I was ready at 9.00 with a long list for the shops.  Paul had gone out to get the ice off the car and as I came out of the front door, he stopped me.  Our path is covered in black ice and he was having trouble with clearing the car so we have a coffee instead.  So much for beating the crowds!
