Why shouldn't workers strike if they have a grievance ..!!
The public are moaning because of the inconvenience to them... Sadly, this is what happens.. If a striking worker does not affect the public they are forgotten and deemed unimportant....
Why should workers not receive a decent pay when the big bosses are receiving yet bigger pay rises..!!
On the radio some person said that the strikers are crippling the country and should be ashamed of themselves.. WRONG.. It is the big firms that are crippling the country by continually rising prices.... They are the ones that should be ashamed..
Our health workers didn't fair too well .. yet were expected to work long and hard in an unsafe environment because it was their duty..  :boo:
I sound like a Labour supporter but I can assure you that I am not..
I am , I hope, a fair person..  and see both sides..

It is quite difficult for a union to call a strike these days, they have to conduct a ballot of all members involved and it takes a lot of money and time. If they don't take the action within a certain time the ballot expires. Employers still have recourse to the courts.

I think the rail workers strike is viewed negatively because they generally have better pay and conditions than most working people.  I think care workers, most of who are paid little more than minimum wage, would get a very different reaction if they took industrial action. Of course their clients would really suffer, similar if health professionals downed tools.
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

It is a bad thing when those on lower wages , who richly deserve a pay rise, dare not strike because they care..

I'm a member of Unite & I'm appalled by the calls, from all the various unions, for strike action at a time of what is a national emergency.

They are on holiday. Last I heard the boss was away in Greece and the rest are busy slagging each other off.

Now I always thought a Labour government would be bad news but the way this lot are carrying on I begin to wonder if they could possibly be any worse. The shit will really be hitting the fan soon the way prices are going.

Ashy

Sorry, what national emergency?

klondike

Wait....

It's what our glorious politicians are doing. Hoping something will come along.
About the only thing that could come along and be worse than is coming is a 10km asteroid or a 50 megaton gift from Putin.

You see, I never watch the BBC so I miss all these things.

klondike

I don't either. I binned my TV licence.

Scrumpy

I don't watch BBC News either.. they tell porkies.
ITV always tell the truth..
But the best of all for a good laugh is the Mirror..

This.
Train drivers get no sympathy from me because they are greedy.
What do they do that could not be done automatically?  Open the doors?  Read a newspaper to pass the time?  I bet they could also fall asleep if they felt like it.

This is what you get when you have a bolshy left-wing union which is ready and eager to hold the country to ransom simply because they can.

I hope they continue striking, because the longer this goes on the more people will make alternative arrangements (Marge and I are thinking seriously of booking a coach down to London at the end of September if the train drivers are still striking), and the eventual outcome would be that the train operators will reduce their services and make many drivers redundant.
Train drivers could even end up like the poor miners.

We're heading for a general strike, at least that's what the Morning Star would like.  I'm a working lass girl, my Dad was a brickie and some winters he didn't have any work, so I know what it's like to have nowt.
My heart is backing the unions, but my head AT THIS TIME isn't.
If there is a General Strike, it will mean a General election and the Tories will be out.

For some reason the possibility of a Labour government doesn't really bother me.
The country's had it anyway, so if Labour encourage even more strikes and allow even more illegal immigration then what's the difference?

Nevertheless, I shall not vote for Labour anyway.  Neither will I vote Conservative.
Do I care?
