I can't figure out what you mean. You read something and press reply or just use the quick reply box. I can't see how that is any different.

I also feel the need to point out that I went to the trouble of putting up a demo version, said I'd be updating soon and asked if there were any problems.

There was this rather odd post

plus a few questions. You posted nothing there. Please forgive me if I seem unsympathetic.

You really don't mate, it's actually me and an inability to understand many of the terms/words used. Always had that problem with computer-speak and I'm embarrassed.

klondike

If you can explain better what problem you have then I will try to help but I can't just guess.  Overall the changes really are very small. A few changes to exactly where things are positioned, a slightly different appearance and some sizing issues which I think are now fixed. As nobody really complained in any specific way I assumed there would be no problems.

I would direct me learned friends attention to line 1 of his signature..

klondike

I would point out to m'learned friend that my sig is actually an image. The first line can be any one of over 500 quotes and no two posters at any given time can be sure of seeing the same one. Plus it changes about every 15 minutes

What I see there right now is
Living healthy is merely the slowest possible rate at which you can die.

The second line is just some guff about how long it is since I rebooted the virtual server and some load stats that tells me we need more posters here. It was a probably vain attempt to get some by means of a mod available only to this release  plus technical improvments to the pages it produces that may (but probably won't) make the great god Google (peace and blessings be upon him) cast a more benevolent gaze upon us.

Alex

I have no idea what either of you are talking about.
What I LIKE about it, is it no longer looks like the Mother Ship

Illustrates my point, not knowing what 'the sig' actually was. It continually slaps me in the face with my own wet fish of mediocrity..which is depressing so I'm saying no more about it and shall use the site as best I can. I understand it a little more now so will ask no more stupid questions.

Alex

I don't think ANY question is stupid when we're finding our way around. :yay:

There are vast numbers of the older generation that don't dare use computers or the internet at all. I was working with the damned things since 1970 so I have no excuse for not knowing stuff while you certainly do. I have no issue with answering questions and certainly none with fixing things that don't work well if there is any way I can.

My sig is designed to fool folk into thinking it is text. so not spotting that isn't surprising. What is more surprising is that you actually read it. Currently it tells me "It's darkest before dawn. That's the ideal time to steal the next door's milk" which gives a clue just how old some of those jokes are.

Get a grip Zoony.. You put up a new post  New-Style Forum and how you preferred the old style format.. But you put it up in the LetsChat Games Room..
You obviously made a mistake.. No big deal.. However it is not the fault of the new format..
I'm thick when it comes to change and understanding all those big words concerning technology but I give it a go..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

I agree with Alex.. It no longer looks like the Mother ship. And that is a refreshing change..

I deliberately made it look like the mothership to start with. When I thought PF was doing a Titanic I initially set up a forum using the most often used forum software phpBB but then thought nobody is going to like this and used Simple machines instead. I even added the same extension (recently updated posts) and used pretty much the same board names and settings.

I think the comments about what is really a very small change now proves I was right on that. We all like what we get used to. Including me but the 2.0 release is showing its age technically and needed updating.

Raven

Just out of pure nose :hmm: and going by PFs history of not fixing things, do you think it will fall in on it's self and collapse as it doesn't get any updates, that I can see, and things don't get fixed when not working. :boo:

It'll keep running but there may be vulnerabilities in that very old code that could be exploited by a hacker. It probably won't happen but it could. So could this one come to that. Any website can be if the hacker is skilled and motivated enough. There is no real motivation in hacking a forum though other than email and password harvesting. So long as you either use a unique or "don't care" password it doesn't matter much.

The older the software the more chance that there will be a script produced that can exploit vulnerabilities
Check https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Script_kiddie
I expect there would be more scripts for phpBB than Simple Machines though for the same reason there or more Windows viruses than for Apple/Linux - lots more users (plus inherently less secure it has to be said too)
