I have lived there in fact I hold / held argentine residency 
I can tell you that it is one of the most beautiful countries in the world .
The city of Buenos Aires is my favourite city .
If you have some money the province of Buenos Aires is probably one of  the best place in the world to live , the weather is wonderful the people educated and the countryside of teeming with wide life .

google Geneva convention shotguns' and some sites say they are allowed in 'modern wars' and some say they are banned. I am pretty sure that the Americans were forbidden to use them - after they had already done so - in WW1

The fact that some complained about their use just goes to prove my point that short range weapons are very effective for the infantry.

Yes, shotguns are allowed in war, as they have been used by many countries in conflicts since World War II. The Geneva Convention does not specifically prohibit shotguns, but it does prohibit weapons that cause unnecessary suffering.

The Geneva Convention bans unnecessary suffering but does not list any specific weapons. Also, shotguns are not banned by any international treaty. Germany tried to have shotguns banned during WWII because of their effectiveness in the hands of US soldiers in trench warfare

Rifles, shotguns, flame throwers... all have been, and probably still are used, in warfare.

I wonder how the GC defines unnecessary suffering.  Yes a bullet through the head or heart is likely to kill immediately.  How about a bayonet to the abdomen?  Likely to kill, but not for some time and in the meantime a great deal of suffering.

The full metal jackets they insist on rather than hollow point cause suffering too. A FMJ can go straight through breaking bones and making one hell of a mess but hitting nothing vital. Get hit with a hollow point carrying the sort of energy that even the small NATO rounds do anywhere in the main body and there is no suffering. Hydrostatic shock produces an almost instantaneous kill.

Certainly.  I think it's pointless trying to sound humane when claiming to prevent suffering in warfare.

Flamethrowers are particularly nasty weapons as is napalm. I have it in mind that napalm may have been banned.

All weapons are designed to kill. It's what happens when they don't quite manage to do that which is concerning.

Anyway back on topic, The Falklands deployment is regarded as one of the dullest postings you can have, which is why dozens of female military staff have become pregnant there and were flown back to UK

Are they stupid?  Taking precautions is easy, and I don't mean abstaining!
