I read somewhere that Harold Wilson lowered the voting age to 18 and lost the next election to Ted Heath, haven't time to verify that mind !  The thing is, 16 year olds can't buy alcohol in a pub, they can't sit on a jury, can't drive until they're 17, can't work a night shift YET they'll be given the chance to vote on who becomes our PM.

That is correct. Heath won in 1970. Those were different times, when we had full employment and Plenty of Work, and his policies make no sense today. Students protested about the bomb more than anything as I recall, and unions were framed for striking over a dripping tap.

But not in GEs. Why should youngsters who contribute nothing to the economy, indeed, are a drain on it, get the opportunity to outweigh those who do. And on a side issue, I would like to see the vote restricted to economic contributers, but realise I am howling at the moon
