Ah yes confusion. This is what happens when threads that go off topic get split into separate ones.

I think I'll revert to my usual way of tackling such things  - shrugging my shoulders and ignoring it all.

I think most of the invites come from HMG not Charles. Certainly it was Starmer browning his kecks under threat of tariffs who offered Trump the unprecedented second state visit and I have no doubt that it is Starmer who is eager to kiss le derrier Fracais because he wants an ally getting us back into the EU with no vote in how things are done.

Quote from: Mups on Today at 09:22:30 AMScrumps,  like most things,  there's two ways of looking at it.

I know when someone is talking it can suddenly jog your memory about another matter altogether.
Fair enough.  Most people would probably say 'Sorry,  what were you saying'?  and get back on topic,  but it often occurs on forums that once the topic is broken,  it never gets back on course.

In other words,  imagine you were talking to me about something serious like a health problem or finances or something that was worrying you,  and I suddenly changed the subject to my new shoes, or how much it costs to go to Majorca, or whether to cut the grass or not,    how would you feel?

And if this happened every time you tried again,  well I can well imagine anyone feeling pretty pee'd off.

I'm just trying to see both sides.

I have better manners then to make foolish comments on threads that are serious..
I respect those that have or are going through any sadness be it over a pet .. friend.. partner..

I'm afraid that our so-called King is quite a wimp.  He was exactly the same at his posh public school apparently.  I believe the late Queen tried to hang on for as long as possible, simply because she could see what a job he would make of becoming the King.  Yes, I appreciate that he has some sort of cancer, but he seems quite able to crawl up to Micron!

The French are not our friends, as I have said many times.  They will take full advantage of the weakness of our leaders, both political and royal, and they in turn will bend over backwards for them.

You must be joking.  That one occasion where French police deflated a dinghy was nothing but a show prior to Micron's visit, in the hope of TwoTier handing them everything they want.
Wait and see, and count how many boats come across the Channel tomorrow.

Are you in favour of Macron's state visit ?
Grovelling with a capital G from Charles as they all scoff and drink 🍷 at taxpayers expense !

Interesting to see if Donald Trump gets the same treatment, though I suppose the carriage ride will be out of the question.
