It seems renewables might not be able to keep the lights on.
I expect most here will have had one of these from National Grid in your email.

Are you taking this seriously and have you made preparations?

Must get more candles .

Klondie, I haven't had one of those through the post as yet,  but I did get an online version yesterday.

I haven't done anything about filling it in as I was worried it might be a scammer I was giving my details to.
What's it all about anyway?  I didn't really understand what it wanted, or why?

I have no idea what this is about.. I haven't received anything..

Sometimes I think it is a blessing to be ignorant of what is happening out there..
Please can you explain in simple terms for me..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

This doesn't surprise me at all.  I can be sure that we will encounter power cuts before long, but I'm sure we all know why.
And Labour are still hoping to be elected again, should they bring forward the next general election.

So glad it's not just me, Scrumps.   :hmm:

Alex

I haven't received anything,  by post or on line

It's just National Grid warning there may be power cuts. There is a link to what they recommend you do to prepare based on where you live and a few other criteria which seems to have frightened Mups. It recommended I have a torch and batteries to hand.

The grid is struggling and there is a good chance we'll be in for power cuts. This is the first time I've seen them send out a warning though.

This is the link to check what they recommend. https://winterhub.nationalgrid.co.uk/plan/ I doubt it will be up to much.

Mups

Thannks Klondie.

Have you filled in all the questions in the link you put up?

klondike

I went through it yes. I wondered if it would recommend more than the obvious or give a plan for a prolonged outage.

Alex

It does seem just common sense doesn't it, but I 've now got my power bank on charge !  I forgot about that, thanks Klondy.

JBR

I believe that, should there be a power cut locally, I understand that we will have no electricity, no lighting, no telly or any other electrical appliances.  On the other hand we do have torches and mobile phones which, depending on local connections, may or may not function.
We still have a car if we need to obtain anything in person.
Nevertheless, depending upon how long any power-cut persists, we are hopefully able to continue to exist!
I hope the water supply doesn't dry up!

I think it's actually part of a cunning plan for nicking some more tax from us...

Water pressure is maintained by pumps. They don't run on steam anymore so a prolonged outage can mean turning on the tap doesn't provide any water.
