This Is Weird

How on earth does something like this happen?

A woman's next door neighbour illegally demolished his semi-detached house, leaving her in her own remaining half. You could say she's detached now but .......... surely her property is structurally unsafe.
He's since sold the land and moved on.

Scrumpy

I am sure it is structurally sound..
I would immediately put a fence up.. Right up to the borderline.. Hoping the person who buys the land doesn't build near the fence..
 Result.. A detached property..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

It looks rather odd. I don't think I'd be a buyer.

This is odd too...The inventor of the throat lozenge has died. There will be no coffin at his funeral.....

sorry, I'll get my coat

I'd be interested to see a face-on picture of the dividing wall.

Could do with a lick of paint.

Blimey,   I am glad that is not my house!

It looks very unsafe,  as well as illegal I'd have thought.

I am amazed that anyone got planning permission to do this !

That's the weird bit ...
What the neighbour did is illegal ... yet he managed to sell the land on .... with approved planning permission for a 5 bedroom house and someone was daft enough to buy it.

The lady who owns the other half has her insurance company taking on the local council but quite honestly, I wouldn't feel safe living in that house.

I doubt it is structurally unsafe but internal walls aren't going to be weatherproof or retain much heat.

There is what used to be a pub down the road from me. I used to drink in there in my youth. They built a new road and roundabout and that pub got cut in half. What is left is now a house
They built a new wall where it was cut off.

Actually looking at it now most of the pub went and it looks like the house next door got the bit that was left. The pub was covered with those big marble tiles that the bit that's left has.

Thanks Morty.  With an exposed chimney and fireplace, along with exposed ends of flooring beams, the owners will need to have a lot of work done now.  Looking at that fence, which is a commonly-used means of deciding property boundaries, some of the remaining wall could also be claimed to be owned by the purchasers of the next-door land as well.  It will be interesting to see what happens here.

Is it safe? - I'm not a property surveyor but in the first and secod world wars, a number of terraced houses where I grew up, were bombed by the Germans, and it struck me that the chimneys were always left intact by whoever completed the demolition.

Make of that what you will.

P.S. You can imagine me asking my father why they put a fireplace on the outside.
