Good thinking, Dex.

I have just googled that question and find the answers a bit confusing.   It seems a bit of a grey area.
It seems they are not illegal, and won't be a fail on an MOT,   BUT,  there are rules to be followed too.
e.g. not hanging too low and blocking vision,  not being able to fold away completely when not is use etc.

Here is more info:

Quote:

MOT Rules and Compliance
  • Obstruction to View: According to the GOV.UK MOT Inspection Manual, a driver's sun visor is only recorded as a defect or a reason for failure if it cannot be stowed in the 'off-screen' position and drops down to obstruct the driver's view through the swept area of the windscreen. [1, 2]
  • Stowage: The extension or the visor itself must fold, flip, or tuck completely out of the way when not in use. If an extension is rigid, loose, or permanently hangs down into your primary field of vision, it will fail the MOT. [1, 2]
  • Missing Visors: Interestingly, missing a driver's sun visor entirely is not an automatic MOT failure; testers will typically pass the car and issue an advisory note. However, a visor/extension that falls down and blocks sightlines will fail. [1, 2]

Additional Risks (Roadside & Highway Code)
  • Police Enforcement: Even if an extension passes an MOT, police can pull you over and issue penalties under Construction and Use regulations if any accessory severely restricts your forward or side visibility.

Another thing that bugs me is,  idle rich men,  who have more money that they will ever need,  and waste it on more toys.

I am thinking of what I read today about Elon Musk again.
The article said  -

Quote:

'Musk now claims to have unveiled the world's first flying car.'
'The redesigned Tesla Roadster has rocket thrusters that help the vehicle take off,  flip, and accelerate from
0 - 60 mph in under one second.    This is due to begin production in 2028.'

Unquote.

What with Trump playing with his space rockets, and Musk with his flying cars . . .
What is it with men?   Why do men have to have toys?

All I say is . .  WHY?    Confusion smiley 22

If I had money to burn like those two,   I would use it very differently.
I know I would spend a lot on helping stop animal abusers, for a start.  The ones who mass breed beautiful, noble wild animals just for the despicable rich shooting 'safari' lot to enjoy shooting dead just for fun and yet another trophy..
I would end bull fighting and the bull running once and for all.
I would stop all the British posh nobs hunting once and for all.
I would build more prisons and stick all the puppy farm breeders inside.
I would  stop the Chinese imprisoning Bears and draining the bile from them all their life.

. . .  and many, many more things like that.

It's only the wealthy prats who would want a flying car to show off and play with.
Why can't they grow up and stop forever wanting another status symbol for their collection!    Anger smiley 31

And one more thing . . .

I would only allow the sale of fireworks for professional displays.

There is a big public display in the park behind my house every year.
I didn't know if it would be on this year because of all the summer drought and wildfires,  but they are running it.  I hope its safe now we've had a bit of rain.    It gets pretty deafening too.

This was a shot from over my garden a couple of years ago.

And another one . .

I don't need to buy a ticket to go!

Musk is so rich he could do all the tings you mentioned if he chose and still have as many toys as he wanted.

Yes,  but you never hear of him doing anything to help anyone,  only making more  cranky,  death-defying toys.
Same as Trumps rockets.
If man ever does get to live on the moon,  greed will only rule, and in time they will wreck it, just the same as they are doing here.

It's possible that the super rich are never nice people. Steve Jobs was apparently a complete arse of a man. I imagine it engenders a superiority complex with everyone else being lesser mortals.

Well its the other way round here,  because it's this 'lesser mortal'  who looks down on them.

I don't know about Elon musk but some of the super rich do give  a lot away .

Warren Buffet has given $68 Billion to various charities over his lifetime .
So have Bill and Melinda Gates

Mackenzie Scott ( jeff bezos x wife ) has given millions and millions away .

JK Rowing is a huge  philanthropist having given £200 million to various very good causes .

I heard this, the UN said that $6 billion would end world hunger. Elon offered the $6 billion, providing they accounted for how it was spent, and they turned him down.

Yes,  but they also get tax relief for donating too.

Anyway,  where on earth could you drive a car that takes off into the air?

muddy

Mups they do get tax relief but they are still giving away a lot of money .
As they could just pay the tax and keep the money .

Ie
A very rich man donates £1million to the local dog sanctuary.
He gets tax relief of 45%
The sanctuary gets £1million
It is not taxed .

45% of £1 million is £450,000

He could give nothing just pay the tax and keep £ 550,000

At least this is how I see it

I may well be wrong .

klondike

Most very rich people don't pay tax they pay accountants

Yes and no .
Everyone  pays tax .
Tax accounts ( if they are any good ) will advise on ways of tax avoidance which is not illegal .

The two biggest tax dodgers in the country are probably King Charles and Prince William .
And earlier on the late Queen Elisabeth who only started to pay tax on her vast income in 1993;.
King Charles ( and his mother and grandfather before him ) paid not one penny in inheritance tax .
And when Charles dies nor will William .
Which is why their vast fortunes remain intact
Yet your average Joe pays 40% IHT on any part of his estate over £325k which owing to the price of houses is almost everyone who owns a house .

The royals family's financialaffairs are not public knowledge but you can bet it's very dodgy indeed
