August mites ( Chiggers)

I am bitten to pieces by August mites .
Or in the case of my garden August ,September and possibly October mites .
They are also known as Harvest mites or Chiggers
They are tiny little blighters you can't see them but they bite big.
Luckily I am in love with the Anthisan and always have a tube at hand

I virtually never get bitten. Either they don't like my smell or maybe I do get bitten but my skin doesn't react to it.

There'll be lots of local names  for biting flies. They all might even be different ones all over the place as it seems to be God's hobby creating beetles and flying bity things. With billions of species of them he must have created hundreds of species every day since he created the world on  October 23rd 4004 BC.

When I had a place in the country there wasn't a day went by that I didn't come across another new to me horrible creepy crawly thing in the house. I probably robbed science of umpteen unknown species evicting the damned things.

I've never heard the name before either.  Mosquitos make a bee line for me so I have a couple of Citronella candles on the patio table.  They don't always work

Gnats always make a bee line for me too, Alex.   
Every summer I get bad bites,  even ending up on Penicillin for the worst ones.   My Mum used to be the same.
I read somewhere that they are attracted to certain blood groups,  but have never understood how they could know what blood  group someone is before they even bite them?

Something has been biting for about the last month again,  but so far I am keeping on top of it.

Muddy,  I have two or three things I use with these wretched bites now.
There is a 1% Hydrocortisone cream I get from the chemist which is helpful,  but also,  for something more 'natural',  have a look at the this website:

I have their little electric shock gadget which works if you can use it straightaway,  but I prefer their 
After Bite  liquid, it's good.   It's in a little applicator with a spongy bit on the tip, and you just dab it onto the bite.   I find it good.


I don't use Citronella  essential oils or the candles at all,  as they are unsafe for dogs and pet birds to inhale.  (I don't know if they are safe around cats or not).
