But Scotland also has a left wing government in the SNP. Look at their take on gender issues!  I've read FOI questions about immigration put to them, and every answer states it's the Home Office, the UK government etc.  Do people in Scottish cities really want to be like Brum?

The SNP has changed a lot the past year or so. I don't like John Sweeney much nor do I like the fact he says Scotland needs a bit more immigration. If they passed a law to make the lazy young Scots who refuse to work get a job or lose benefits, then we wouldn't need them, and we'd pay out less in benefits. But what do I know, I don't have my head in the clouds........Like them.

Nothing to stop someone being proud of their nation and left wing. I think a lot of Scots are indeed both. 

Left wing doesn't mean someone has to buy into all the left wing viewpoints - things like being globalist, pro trans, anti capitalist etc. doesn't stop anybody being proud of their nation nor does buying into one of those viewpoints mean they must all be believed. The labels are  too broad brush. People are complicated.

We are complicated. Even after 50+ years in England, I feel Scottish. How I sound, where most of my family history is from.  Anyone who has close ancestors with names like Macdonald will get it.  We are all bound up in our childhoods, for good or bad, to a degree. 

I miss my home town, I think.  Perhaps I just miss the familiarity  of my younger days. Or do I just miss my youth?  I wonder how I would feel if we had stayed put? I'll never know.  

I have much to be thankful for, reasonably good health at 80; a long and happy (most of the time) marriage; kids who have done ok for themselves, and grandchildren who are all doing fine.  

I wonder how others feel about their lives? Do they look back, and think about their decisions?

So what is right wing or "far right " ?
Far right used to mean someone who suported Hitler like Oswald Mosley .

Now it appears to mean people who don't hate the U.K. or the English flag .
Don't feel guilty for being white .
Don't welcome boatloads of young men who will eventually rise against us 
Don't shout "free Palestine " or throw soup over old masters .
Don't think men who put on a frock are women 
In short people who have a bit of common sense .

Chucking out people already settled here and working who came legally when we were in the EU is probably a step too far for most. What about others who are also here legally and settled and were working but had health problems and can't work now? Ok to boot them out?

A lot of people are ok with not continuing to allowing those entering illegally to stay and drastically reducing legal inward migration. Maybe tracking down and deporting illegals involved in crime or even legals who turn to crime but we can't deport everybody with a bit of a suntan which appears to be Lowe's policy unless I misunderstood him.

Pakistan has just deported millions of illegal migrants back to Afghanistan .

They are all the same colour

Yet won't take one convicted rapist  back from the U.K.

The terms left and right wing have changed their meanings. 

The first time I heard those terms expressed would be in the late 1960s. when left wing observed that workers created all the wealth but never got rich themselves, whilst the rich never created any wealth. They sought through one means and another to give more of the wealth to the people who created it. The right wing opposed this by resisting better conditions for workers.

Now society has changed, we still have rich and we still have poor, but those who work for a living now have more reasonable hours, holidays, some spare money. The right wing now defend that whilst the left want to take it away and give it to people who don't earn it.

What beats me is so much of what we consume in Britain is made abroad and shipped here in foreign built ships with foreign crews. Even the capitalists are Chinese now We're not creating wealth by mining, fishing and manufacturing as we did in the 1960s, and the government is 3 trillion + in debt.

To quote an unforgettable movie, whose name I cannot recall,
"Conservatives believe in the exploitation of man by man, whilst socialists believe in the exact opposite."
