We should do the same .

We certainly should. I haven't seen any up here, YET but I see them sometimes if I'm down in Perth. I was in Asda one time and a woman wearing one came around the isle end as I was heading for it in the opposite direction, gave me quite a start. I don't like them they make me uncomfortable.

Are you sure it was a woman?  The ideal disguise for men if they're up to no good.

I agree with all that.   :upvote:

I see them here if I go into town, and in the hot weather it annoys me that the men are dressed comfortably, whilst the women are head to toe in black.  There is no religious reason for it, a Muslim colleague, who dressed in Western clothes explained it clearly.  All the Koran says is that both men and women should dress modestly.  For her that meant, jeans/trousers, midi dresses, tops with sleeves.   Just like most of the women I worked with.
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

There aren't that many muslims in Portugal, not compared to UK where they are 8% of our population.  Imagine the kick off if we attempted to ban the burqa here !

GrannyMac

All face coverings should be banned in public places.  Unless there is a medical reason for a Covid type mask.  That discriminates against no one.

8%?  I'm sure there must be more than that in the UK.  Places like Bradford (where I was born), Birmingham and London are heaving with them.

As a woman I feel annoyed at them .
This is my country where generations of women suffered for personal freedom and suffrage .
We don't need medieval traditions resurrected .
We don't live in tents in the desert where privacy was minimal so covering up was perhaps necessary at times .
I want to say look woman what are you doing ?
You are an absolute disgrace to womanhood .
It's a feeling of disgust .
But usually the women concerned are poor ignorant females except when they are stupid women MPs pandering to ignorant muslim men .
They haven't quite got as far as the face covering yet but it's on the cards .......

I agree.
They make people with motorbike helmets take them off,  presumably for the security cameras,  yet allow someone hidden from top to toe enter shops.   Crazy.

According to this it varies a lot by area and of course we are 4 years on

According to the official census data (covering 2021–2022 across England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland), Muslims make up 6.0% of the total United Kingdom population (approximately 4 million people).
A breakdown by country and region reveals some key details:
England: 6.7% (approx. 3.8 million)
Wales: 2.2% (approx. 67,000)
Scotland: 2.2% (approx. 120,000)
Northern Ireland: 0.6% (approx. 11,000)
Regional Highlights:
London has the highest concentration, where Muslims make up 15.0% of the population.
Other regions with significant populations include the West Midlands (9.6%), Yorkshire and the Humber (8.1%), and North West England (7.6%).

I mentioned Bradford.  The figure for Yorkshire and the Humber, being 8.1%, doesn't tell the full tale about Bradford.  Yorkshire is a vast county, largely rural.  The places where muslims are prevalent are not out in the countryside, but in many cities and especially in certain areas of those cities.  Although I don't know the percentage of muslims in Bradford, but I do know that certainly in some parts of the city, they are certainly in the majority.
