Quote from: muddy on August 16, 2026, 10:58:59 AMAndy Burnham has asked for ' a moment of reflection ' as he issues a statement on Jason Arday .
I wonder why he didn't ask for one for Anne Widdecombe  whose funeral was a few days ago .
Or maybe he should reflect on the grief of Andrew Harpers mother and family upon who his government  is about to inflict more pain as they see his smirking killers walk free.

Hardly surprising, Arday ticked a lot of boxes in the woke agenda.
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

Its because the woke movement choose identity over merit .
The fact he was a black  his credentials were ( seemingly ) not important .
I don't understand it myself surely you have to have great credentials to be come a professor at Cambridge university ?

There's a gofundme that has topped £40k for his family if anybody fancies donating.

muddy

He was a well paid Cambridge professor why would he need a gofundme fund ?
It has however reached 130k apparently.

There appears to be two sides to this sad story .

One he was hounded by the racist press .

Two he was fraud and a fantasist who made up all the stuff about his life and plagiarised his articles etc

.
I had also never heard of the man until a week or so ago .

Nor had many

Doubtless both are true (I doubt racism came into it although it is possible). The version you read depends where you read it. I imagine there is no doubt that he made up plenty of stuff and somebody spotted some of it which if the stories are true, which I imagine they must be, was hardly difficult. Then the digging started.

Alex

Do we have a racist press today, towards black people that is ?     I thought the press was just anti white ?

Scrumpy

I doubt we will learn the full truth..
Whatever the truth, he was a smart guy to fool some of the people, some of the time..
Either someone queried his true  ( academic) qualities or someone cocked up then decided they would pass the buck by shifting the blame elsewhere..

No.. I will not be donating to GoFundMe..  He had a good run for his money..
Many people are not in a position to earn the likes..

All very sad.. Poor man..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

You don't have to be smart to tell untruths and if you fall into some categories it seems people are reluctant to call you out.

Mups

I think the whole thing seems quite odd.
But there again,  as usual,  we don't know the whole story.

Depends who is reporting.

In a statement read by Labour MP Bell Ribeiro-Addy on behalf of Arday's family, they said "the public cruelty Jason was subjected to was too much for any man to bear".

As most of the public did not know he existed until last week this is not true .
How many of the public are au fait with the world of academia ?

Yet another black labour politician with a grievance .
Forgetting what this country has given her , and education and the chance to rise to being part of the government .
That is what her parents  came to this country to achieve .

Quote from: Alex on August 15, 2026, 01:09:39 PMI hadn't heard of him until this week.  Sad he died so young, but I wonder why now  ? all had been revealed, he'd been cleared by John Moore's of any wrongdoing too.    I guess some people can take the flack and others can't.
John Moores said his PhD still stands which is odd since there were a reported 186 instances of plagiarism in his thesis.

Why John Moores decided to let it stand will probably never be made public, although it's quite easy to work out why beyond any reasonable doubt.

The general public would have shown little interest in his academic misdemeaners, what brought him down was the raft of utterly ludicrous, now debunked, events that he attributed to himself when he spoke about his life.

What he has achieved is creating an atmosphere where any future truly gifted black academic will be viewed with suspicion.

But he has given me one of the best laughs I've had in a long time.

We could possible see an academic cap & dreadlocks being sold alongside the 'see u Jimmy' ones in joke shops. Lol.

His autobiography will probably still be published. Should do well.
