Scrumpy

I have a Hazelnut tree that hangs over into my garden..
Already she is shedding her leaves..
I watch a squirrel who lives nearby in a very large tree..
It runs along the fence.. stops... eyeballs me .. runs along a wall then jumps into the Hazelnut tree..
Sometimes he stops to have a nut or two...dropping the shells wherever it pleases.. Then he returns to his home with a nut firmly in his mouth.. Winters stock..
I watch a pigeon pair come down to have a bath in the big bird bath outside my kitchen window..
Sometimes when he is on his own he sits in the bath and soaks for a while.. They never bathe together..

Where are all the garden birds ?.. I have seen an occasional one at the bath, front garden and back.. but very few.. And how silent birdsong has been this summer..
I miss the song of the Blackbird..

Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

I have stopped feeding the birds during the summer, but still get blackbirds, pigeons and sparrows in the bird bath.

You are right about the silence of the birds, Scrumps,  I have noticed the same.

Why do those bloomin' Pigeons always poo in the bird baths?
They have a drink,  then turn round, poo in the water  then fly off.
So I have to put fresh water in again for the smaller birds that come.

I put fresh water in a large bowl outside the back door for the dogs .
Five minutes late a fat pigeon  was having a bath in it !
I have put out a shallow tray for the sparrows they love it ,

Such a simple idea Muddy,  but it may have saved a little life today.   :upvote:

I hang fatballs on our lilac tree.  Starlings love them, pigeons sit underneath waiting for bits to drop off. We get sparrows and bluetits too, but not many this year.
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

I bought some tape from Temu to deter the pigeons.  I put it on my washing line and fences and it has stopped them congregating in groups..  I see the odd one, but they are avoiding this shiny, noisy tape  :upvote:
