Wild fires and Water

All these horrific wildfires rapidly growing and spreading in France and Spain must be terrifying.

At least humans get jump in their cars and quickly leave the area,  but I hate to think of all the wild life trapped,  helpless, and  dying.  Even if some do survive,  I doubt they would find any food anywhere.
   
I remember when they  had really bad fires in Australia,  and the news showed many of the Koala's covered in burns and with their foot pads all burnt.

If we get any bad fires here this year,  it made me wonder where would the firefighters and helicopters get all the water from if our reservoirs are getting so low?

Rivers and maybe lakes would be a good source as they don't really dry up a lot. The rivers mostly just run slower. It's a mystery why they don't actually dry up. I think some streams do.

What's the difference between a lake and a reservoir?     
Surely if the reservoirs were drying up,  the lakes would be too?

Household water comes from reservoirs. Lakes only evaporate along with some seepage into the ground as the water table drops.

I have never forgotten seeing a picture of a family fleeing from the fires, and instead of taking their dog with them they tied it up to the garden fence and buggered off in their car. 

I am guessing they tied it up to stop the dog from running after them,  but how could anyone leave an animal tied up with the flames fast  approaching beggars belief, doesn't it.
I wish I'd never seen that picture of him sitting there waiting for help.

If someone took a picture they would have helped him Mups .
It's very upsetting seeing cruelty to animals .
I was upset this morning because I saw  Egyptian Equine on FB.
It's a charity which helps horses used for tourists near the pyramids 
The treatment of these poor animals is appalling how can people be so inhumane .
They do what they can which is often euthanasia IF the  owner agrees which they often don't .
They drag off the poor animal despite horrendous injuries .
They work until they drop dead .

I live near the source of the Thames ( one of the sources )
It's been bone dry for months now .
We are also near the source of the Avon it's still running thank goodness .

I have to mute all those donkey adverts on the telly because its so upsetting.
I have supported the donkey sanctuary for years,  but I can't watch those adverts.

Anyway,  back to the fires.   
There has been a wildfire burning  in Derbyshire,  near the Peak district, too.

Some idiot on an estate near me, had a fire in his garden, left it smouldering, it set fire to his house and four others!

There is a close season for course fish in rivers from mid March to mid June as that is the breeding season.

Bright sun is bad news for course fishing and you can't ethically fish for predators with the water this hot as catching them really messes them up because of the low oxygen content.

The sunlight also makes the weed go bonkers. Result of that is I haven't had a full day fishing this season yet just a short session on the river in my son's new dinghy. We think the heat and sun killed the old one off as all 4 chambers had deflated and it wouldn't hold air.

The old chap who lives next door to me is a fisherman.  He is 83,  and still goes seven days a week with his old mate.   I think they belong to a fishing club somewhere,  maybe Wellingborough, but not sure.
I read somewhere recently that this heat is causing a lot of Algae.

When we were kids, I remember my brother used to enjoy fishing too,  he carried on for many years after he was an adult too.   I remember him talking about the Close season too.  Sometimes he did  sea fishing as well.

I don't think I could sit still long enough.

Only course fishing and sea fishing. Given where I live not much sea fishing.

Your neighbour probably has a choice of clubs or fisheries. I go with my son either to his boat or we sometimes have hired a boat on a local reservoir for a day pike fishing. We have had a few days in a lodge at a carp fishery a couple of times.
