New user

We get new users on a very regular basis. Not quite as regular as those rejected by the StopforumSpam mod but still rarely a week goes by without some arriving. They all have a similarity.

A very odd looking userid
An equally odd looking email
Non UK IP address
They don't post

And lastly the id gets deleted by me when I either get told about it or notice myself.

Today I noticed two. One has already been deleted. The other hasn't yet as the userid is Joan and the email looks believable.

The reason I don't think this is just a shy newcomer is because the ip used to sign up is a VPN

So if Joan sees this and is a wallflower make a post. If you don't I'll bin the id tomorrow. If you are the security services all our plots are squirreled away and just registering only shows some of the forum so tough luck

I doubt many pensioners use a VPN. This is almost certainly just another bot which for some reason used a believable user id to sign up.

I've sometimes checked and found unused IDs that are quite old. It's why I made some of the boards visible only to a manually assigned group and why it is safer in these troubled times (crap governments) to use Controversial or other private sections for some types of post.

My guess is that there is one type of bot that sets up IDs all over the web and they get sold on for use by others running different bots. We used to get one register and immediately post a bunch of links but I haven't seen that in ages.
