I remember glasses with pictures on them, we sometimes get them donated to the charity shop. Usually most of the picture has worn off.

the mention of babycham made me smile, all the ladies in our group drank brandy and babycham, which wasnt a cheap drink, on the last thursday of the month we used to run a coach to one of the theatre clubs one in wakefield and another in perhaps Sheffield... now the ladies used to take a few minatures of brandy in their handbags...lol...until..... the IRA started its campain... so the clubs started searching the ladies handbags...oops..so if anyone asks you why the nice clubs shut down you can blame the IRA... the best turn we ever saw was without a doubt Freddie Starr.. everyone in the coach had face-ache, i dont know how long he was on stage for [its was hours] a true entertainer

I saw Freddie Starr in the Fiesta in Sheffield, he had the place in stitches! Perhaps the same show. 😄

on the subject of drinking glasses, back in the day a lot of drinking glasses came from bars... in the Army i played in the pipeband, we had been playing in the lake district and my mate [a very large piper] was admiring a nice glass and asked the landlord if he could get one and surprisingly the landlord gave us a lecture on thieves and poined out he would be watching us [swear word inserted] so we just finished the drink and left big Donald called the landlord attention to our two glasses on our table, he just waved... so once outside Donald in full dress put a small round table in the centre of the pavement there were four empty glasses on the table.. he had just put his Plaid [sort of shawl] round the table and carried it outside...

What they charge in pubs these days and they expect us to give the furniture back.

they troop out all forms of reasons for the demise of pubs and clubs...in the seventies Doncaster and district C.I.U. had 365 members [clubs] I dont know but i reckon there might be about 65 left.. what i noticed in the 80s was the invent of home-brew or rather the rise in participants... guys were coming into the club at ten pissed up getting a half pint then rocking to the turns last spot...lol.. absoloutly nothing we could do about it, but it certainly shrunk the amount of clubs and pubs... do folk still do home-brew?

Even if they don't supermarket prices are a fraction of pubs with the same brands and more. I think most people must go to pubs for the company and the atmosphere and judging by the numbers of pubs closing the prices have got too high for that too.
