I only counted one eye.. and didn't see the one bottom left.. So that adds up to 7.

Its 8 if you count each eye. Not sure the one right at the bottom isn't a flaw in the picture though.

I counted one for the eyes, one for the pattern on the robe, and thoughtvthe mark bottom left was a flaw.

Debatable. Quite a lot of these spot the difference puzzles will do just one of a pair of items. The low mark is odd it is definitely different between the two pictures but not clear exactly what it is in either.

As the puzzle says 5 it's clear what was meant by those who set I though.
