This awful heat

It's going on for five o clock and the temperature here is 35.5.

The very plants are gasping .

Just watching a programme on telly about the heatwave of 1975/76.

No rain for 16 months.       Wildfires everywhere.
15 people  (mostly children),  died  in just one weekend through jumping in lakes and reservoirs.

One man was saying he remembers when they used to come round and turn off the water at 2 pm until the next morning!   When they turned a stand pipe on,  people all had to collect their water in buckets, jugs, and anything else they could find.   

It was dry in the summer,   then still dry through the winter of of 75/76,  then continued dry through the following summer too.   It is said to be the worst drought on record for the UK.

I do hope this present heat and dryness is not going to drag on much longer . . .

I can't really say I can either.

They are saying when the rain finally began in autumn '76,  it was so heavy the ground couldn't absorb it quick enough and everywhere was flooded.  6"  of rain a day,  the wettest autumn  since 1741!

Bet they didn't keep blaming it on global warming in those days. 
Nothing is stronger than nature  -  not even old Trump .
