Child criminals

Did anyone else read about this in the Sunday paper yesterday?

Apparently,  the police had to write off thousands    of crimes last year because the young culprits were under 10 yrs old!
We are not talking about nicking an ice cream,  we are talking about drug offences, violent assaults, attacks on police officers,  and even rape!!

It says figures showed that there were 11,031 offences last year alone, where no action could be taken because the suspects were under 10 yrs old.
I find this really hard to imagine.   Kids that age committing such serious crimes?

So what are our government going to do about this do you think?
Well,  they are supposed to be  'looking at increasing the cut-off age to 12, instead of 10 yrs old'.
This seems quite obvious to even me,  that this would even more youngsters than ever to commit crimes without fear of punishment as long as they are under 12 now.

One retired detective is supposed to have said - "Criminalising under 10's is not the answer in my view.  However, we do need to take action because I believe it relates to bad parenting."
He went on to say he thought in the most serious of cases the child could be removed from their environment and placed into Care.

I certainly think something urgently  needs to be done,  because if they are doing crimes equivalent to adult crimes  e.g. rape,  assaulting Cops, and doing drugs,  before they are even 10 yrs old,  they are surely paving the way to be hardened criminals by the time they are in their teens!

I found this quite alarming,  but also,  don't  you think there is a very sad side to it as well?

Yes,  and sometimes you can't help but wonder where,  or how,   it will all end.

I suspect that at least some of those crimes are done at the behest of adults making use of children as they cant be prosecuted.

Drugs yes, quite probably -   but rape?

That's why I said "some" - hopefully they haven't let 11,031 10 year old rapists walk free.

The innocence of a child.. !!  Far from the truth in many cases..

Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

I can't help thinking the internet is a lot to blame. Things are posted, accepted
viewed and repeated that children watch and accept.

Wrong!

Yes indeed children see and hear things that they should not .

However

Moral standards haven't fallen so low that rapists are let off if they are a technical child .

Rape is rape

The judge  needs to be committed ,

Mups

Perhaps sometimes its the Judges who should go on trial!

Being brought up an RC we were instilled with the concept of sin from a very early age .
Sin was very real and had consequences .
Mortal and venial right from wrong was clearly defined .
I wonder that today children actually know the word .
The age of reason was seven .
