The thing is there is no way of measuring deterrent .
How many people stopped crossing the line of murder because  of fear of the consequences ?
In the U.K. CP was swift just weeks after the sentence
In the US people are decades on death row because of the endless appeals .

I am for CP for heinous proven crimes
Ie the Lee Rigby murder .
There was no doubt whatsoever of the murderers guilt .
They stood their with blood soaked knifes proud of what they had done .
They should IMO  have been taken out  like the mad dogs they are .
As it is we have to support them ( and this includes Lee Rigbys family ) by our taxes for the rest of their worthless lives .
And they are young - they will be a financial burden for at least the next half a century ,one is in Broadmoor 'hospital .'
This costs three times the cost of a normal high security prison .
They both should be euthanised but it would have been better if the police had shot them dead as they celebrated over the dying body of their victim .

Alternatively why don't we just pay El Salvador to house our heinous criminals ?
It would be cheaper and a huge deterrent .
They probably would not last too long there with a bit  of luck .

There would be no need for any of that if we deported them as soon as their feet touched....

Just to confirm, the younger man was found guilty of ABH on WPC Ward, AEW* on WPC Cook and assault on the customer in the coffee shop that started the whole affair.

Two juries have been unable to reach a verdict on the two men collectively charged with ABH on PC Marsden.

There is obviously no argument about what happened and who was present at the time etc, but there are elements in all charges that have to be proved, and clearly the crown is struggling to prove their case in the fourth charge. If there is reasonable doubt, the defendants are entitled to the benefit of that doubt.

the younger man is detained on remand pending sentencing. (I guess he'll be released on the same day)

*AEW is assault on an emergency worker, which I believe is supposed to be more important than an assault on an ordinary member of the public.

Interesting to note that both the accused men have the same name spelt (transliterated) differently.

Probably if it was a shortish sentence. It will be custodial though or he wouldn't have been remanded in custody.

Excellent!  Not only cheaper than keeping them in our already overcrowded prisons, but almost certainly a far better deterrent as well as cheaper, as you say.
I'd like to see them try to escape and come here by boat from El Salvador!

Also, don't bother with expensive airline flights.  Use an old steamship across the Atlantic and let them enjoy the bumpy ride and save money into the bargain.

I have never been in one but I'm sure that, if you keep yourself to yourself in a British prison and follow the orders of the biggest prisoners, you'll be left alone.  Nevertheless, I don't think that I would last for five minutes in prison.
