It's almost my birthday, my two lovely kids and my daughter in law (2nd daughter 💕) took me to Edinburgh yesterday.  We went on the Northern Belle, old fashioned dining cars with silver service.  Started in Crewe, with a piper on the station.

It was a wonderful day out, with a visit to the Edinburgh dungeons, and a couple of drinks 🍸 in the Edinburgh Gin distillery, then a lovely dinner and champagne 🍾 on the train home.  A real treat.

Sounds like a great day out Mac. I've been to Edinburgh but only working and didn't get to do the tourist thing. I can't even remember what the job there was. I think it involved a single overnight stay but it may just have been fly in fly back.

I spent quite a bit of time there as a kid, aunties and friends of parents.  My daughter worked there for several years and we visited her a few times.  Done all the tourist stuff, except the Tattoo. On the list for this year!

You'll love the Tattoo GM, dad took us every year when we were growing up. The atmosphere is wonderful, you don't get that on the telly, then the silence in the pitch dark before the Lone Piper high up on the battlements starts his playing, you could hear a pin drop.

That sounds wonderful, such a lovely day out.

There's a lot to do in Edinburgh. I spent my honeymoon there in 1954.

Good memories for you CHF.

Just got home from Cheshire, quiet weekend planned.  Just a nice birthday dinner tomorrow with my OH, and a visit from daughter & granddaughter.

My daughter went years ago when she was living in Edinburgh, she loved it.

What a lovely day out for you GM, was it a surprise ?   It's many years since I was in Edinburgh, a lovely city.

GrannyMac

It was, up to a couple of weeks ago.  I knew we were going somewhere, but they needed to tell me so I could wear the right clothes and shoes.  My actual birthday is today, OH has just brought me tea and a lovely card.

I do count my blessings.
