They want some big tough security guys that aren't afraid to be intimidating .
In rough places they should wear stab vests

Although that would be an effective means of deterring shoplifters, that would result in them being sacked just like the one in the news recently.  The root problem appears to be the owners of the outlets.  In my opinion, they deserve to lose stock by shoplifting.
I wonder whether they are afraid to physically prevent shoplifting due to the recent hit-and-miss consequences in the courts, when some minor infractions are punished, yet some more important illegalities are quitely ignored.  Something is happening to our judges.

But what to do?

Shop lifting is no longer considered a crime .

Barging through ticket gates at railway stations  is no longer a crime .

( yet my friend with a legitimate ticket that cost her over a £100 was harassed by inspectors at Paddington . She is 75 and 5 ft 2 " so was fair game ) eventually a supervisor was called who confirmed that her ticket was valid .

Noisy phone calls in the quiet carriage on these trains is ok too  there are no inspectors so anything goes .

( why because it costs more to take the wrongdoers to court that let them off - and the criminals  know it. .)

Fly tipping is rife and litter dropping is widespread

I was brought up to believe dropping litter was wrong  aren't children taught  this any more ?
