Job description..

What is the job description of a Security Guard in shopping stores please..? Does anybody know.?
He certainly doesn't seem to be in a position to put his hands on anybody..

He is NOT allowed to tackle a shoplifter... Does he have to politely say 'I think you are carrying something that you have forgotten to pay for'... 
Try saying that to a guy/guys running out of a store with vast amounts of alcohol, meat joints, clothing and items on the list that his 'friends' have asked for.. 

What is his purpose.. ?

I read that too. It should have been kept quiet. I wonder if they are allowed to deny access? That has to be just as risky.

Course he would.  He'd know full well there is nothing the guards can do.
They might as well sack all the security people now,  because they can't do the job anymore, so what's the point of having them.   They will be welcoming the thieves next.
How on earth did these stupid laws ever get passed??

A sad situation.  The criminals now seem to have the upper hand, not only shoplifters but also many other criminals who know that the corrupt law is now on their side.  Add to that, the apparent amateurism of many of our new police which, I think, may have started with Treason May sacking them all back then.

I suspect that the new leadership of the police are now all university graduates with absolutely no practical abilities or awareness.  Add to that the apparently new legal limitations on what 'crimes' can and cannot be charged.  It has also already been stated that you can shoplift any items up to £500 (I think) without any charges being levied.

If shops don't want to fold economically, due to these rules, they should do away with shelves of stock and make purchases done along the lines of online ordering: customers queue up and state their shopping list, the items collected by staff in a separate room and handed over upon payment.

I think if I owned a shop these days I'd be thinking about closing it and moving online.

Small independents would never compete. Not on price and not on presence. Far too easy to just look on Amazon..

It is all very sad... 
I love walking around a town , especially in new places that I visit..
Looking in shop windows and seeing a variety of different shops..
Unfortunately shops have dwindled down.. many closing..
Covid can not take the full blame.. Councils are greedy .. and shoplifting is rife..
Causing many small shops to close down
