I was the kid in the middle.. One older sister.. one younger sister..
We were all born in January one year between us..
My eldest sister had new clothes ... they were passed down to me.. My younger sister had new clothes because after being worn by me and my older sister they were not fit to be passed down..
So.. I was only the one that seldom wore anything new..

Did you have pass me down clothes..?
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Michael Rolls

Yes all the time, I have three older sisters. I seldom got new clothes, except sometimes on my birthday if I really wanted something.
I wasn't too fussed at first but when I became 13/14 I got really iffy about it.

I was the eldest and had two younger brothers .
My mum didn't think they needed to help with the washing up 🤬

I'm a middle child, always a rebel!!

Mups

I only had an older brother,  so No,  we didn't share clothes.

I was an only child. Unusual back then.

I was an only child too. My clothes got passed down to my cousin who was a year younger.
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

I had an elder brother. When it came to clothes, wartime rationing meant
even the essentials were hard to get. I remember queueing with my
mother for shoes, hoping the shops' quota hadn't been sold by the time we got
there.

I remember having a new pair of red shoes.. Not for school... for 'best'..
 I can still visualise them..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

I remember asking if I could have boots. I meant Beatle type boots. I got god awful sensible ones. I hated them.

Me too, yes unusual especially for a Catholic family    I used to get pixxed off in later life when some people assumed an 'only child' was a spoilt child.  I certainly wasn't a spoilt child, my Dad was a brickie and every winter he'd be out of work due to the weather.  No idea how my Mum coped paying rent and feeding us, as there was little in the way of benefits.   Bring out the violins.....but it's true !

Being an only didn't mean spoilt, although I didn't have it particularly hard. My parents were older than the norm when I was born almost 80 years ago. My dad was a manager in a mill, he worked his way up from being a clerk, and I don't think we were hard up, but he died when I was in my teens. That changed things.
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖
