Newer ones already are for low speed. So are hybrids.  We follow EU rules for this and other car regulations.

They don't make engine sounds as such. Perhaps you've heard them and thought it was a UFO nearby? Boots and Specsavers do hearing aids too now :grin:

that was proposed at one time but not implemented. I had two narrow escapes with the hybrid Mondeo on electric with pedestrians stepping out from behind parked vehicles. I don't trust that road so was only doing about 12mph - just as well!

As I said it's a legal requirement for all newer EVs and hybrids sold in the UK

I think 'new' refers to the introduction of the model certainly my Mondeo (21 plate) had nothing of the sort

Not sure then. Certainly when my son had an EV it did the spaceship thing and that must have been close to 5 years ago.  So does the hybrid he replaced it with and so does my own hybrid.

Maybe his had it before the regulations said they all have to.
