Did you read about the Waitrose employee who was sacked because he confronted a shop lifter ?  I didn't believe it either !  Apparently he's worked for the company for 17 years.

It's been all on the news that has, Alex.    Seems crazy doesn't it.    Unless of course, there is a lot more to it that we don't know . . .

I hope some other company offer him a job!
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

I think I will take up shoplifting..
It all seems so easy..
Walk in to any shop.. Choose items at your leisure..
Stroll out..
I wonder if they will replace my Loyalty Card with a cash bonus.. sent to me every six months.. !!!
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

I don't think Waitrose will have heard the end of this, somehow.

In a way I can see why shops don't want staff to get involved,  because it cost them a fortune in compensation if an employee got badly injured at work -  or even killed by some nutter.

I really don't know the answer though.
Modern shoplifters must be laughing their socks off.

Although I agree with what  Peter Bleksley was saying about these stores employing properly trained security staff,  Muddy,   but  I don't suppose the smaller local shops and corner shops could afford such people,  but they suffer with theft too.
I think his idea  would only be of help to the big concerns, so I don't know what would help others..

I can foresee this sort of problem increasing, bearing in mind the lack of police, soft courts, and greedy defence lawyers.

Solutions?  Well, there are a couple of options I can think of immediately:
- Shops in 'certain areas' are likely to close down.  What will the locals do then?
- Shops will consider not having goods immediately available, but images on display with details and costs.  Customers would then make a list of what they want, hand it to a checkout operator, the requested goods will be brought out from the stock room, and will then be handed over after payment.

Any other bright ideas?
