Yet another poor horse dies at Cheltenham,  whilst being made to race his heart out for  money-mad owners of the racing fraternity.
Fell,  injured himself, and Vets  put him to sleep.  He was just 8 years old.

That is another thing that bugs me.   Just because an animal may not be able to race any more, znd earn money,  he is not  allowed to live.  I am sure there are some horsey folks would give these animals a kind retirement home,  but  the racing lot  won't put their hands into their fat wallets to pay for treatment, will they.

It's a good job humans  are not bumped off at retirement isn't it!

Yes,  quite.  It will be the Grand National, and more deaths next.

Alex

Nothing will change as there's too much money at stake and it happens every year, it makes me sick 😡
I dread the Grand National.

Yet another horse has died now,  after a fall at the last fence.
I can't tell you how much I loathe these people for abusing these fine animals just to line their own pockets.

They only see horses as a creature that jumps.. runs and walks nicely.. When the creature can't do that they regard them as useless ... Mostly they are not animal lovers.. Just something for sport..

I reckon Anne (princess) can give a horse the (stare) when it gets it wrong..
I can't imagine a (sports) animal getting a genuine hug or kiss from its owner..
I think only those that work at the stables are capable of any love towards the animals..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Racehorses are fragile .
If they fall or break a leg it's practically impossible to mend them .
The bloodstock industry overbreeds anyway every year hundreds of young horses go straight to the meat market .

A nation of animal lovers...!!! That's a laugh..
How quickly we knock other countries for (cruel) sport..
We should look closer to home...
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Well how bloody stupid is that, for a start!

An animal that is expected to carry the weight of a human on its spine,  and still run like the wind, taking on large  obstacles along  the way,  with the human waving a whip about,   yet you say they are 'Fragile'    with bones that don't mend?    Well why don't they breed them more robust then?

That seems like driving a posh saloon car over mountainous terrain with an elephant on the roof, and expecting no  chassis, or wheel damage.

Must be the dummest design fault ever!

Racehorse are increasingly bred for speed with big hearts and lungs and fragile legs .
Even on the flat they break down
Although steeple chasers ( jump horses ) such race at Cheltenham are generally somewhat  more robust  weight and impact on fine legs is not good .
They can also fall and break their necks
The strain of being kept racing fit also takes its toll .

I'm not saying that all chasers die young but sadly many do .

Horses in general are quite delicate .
Horses with more bone ( the legs are more sturdy ) tend not to be used for racing
Racehorses are also raced young , a horse lasts longer if it is not worked too much too young .
Like children their bone plates have to set .
They also live an un natural life being in a box most of the time .
This and the high energy diet they eat is also not natural to horses.
They developed to live lives of constant movement eating little but often mainly grass.

The toughest horses are the native breeds most of which are ponies .
These small horses have plenty of bone and if living  a natural life - outside - can live a long time .
Horses used for pleasure riding with good care do in fact live a long time .

As we see horse racing is supported by the very rich .
Principally among them was the late Queen and the Queen Mother .
It's an elite sport .
And money speaks .

Interesting reply..

The Queen Mother used to have some of her horses in stables at our local park.. She would often visit..
Oh how the other half live..
