Couldn't find a specific section for this,  so have put it here.

To those in the know,  this is probably an incredibly daft question,  but here goes anyway.

It's about WhatsApp.
I don't want them keep sending me messages about games and stuff I am not interested in,  so I went into Settings and blocked the WhatsApp messages.

Thinking about it since,  does that mean I have gone and blocked messages from What'sApp friends as well?

Blocking the whats app thread won't block your contacts. It seems to be something relatively new. It doesn't bother me as I don't look and have muted its notificattions. I do occasionally  clear it out as it will use a bit of phone memory but probably not much. Your question reminded me to. It said it that used a couple of kB since sometime in December which is peanuts.

No,  what I meant was,  will it block friends/family  messaging me?   I didn't mean block my contact list.

The reason I don't want the ads is because if it keeps pinging, I think someone wants me but its just another blinkin'  advert.
If I do as you just said,  and mute it,  then I won't hear when a proper message has come through, will I?

(Sorry,  I know what I mean, just can't express it very well)!

If you just blocked the feed it won't block anything other than the feed.
You could have just muted notifications for the feed which is what I did although they don't actually arrive all that often anyway.

Click on the feed in your app. Click the three dots top right. You can see what you have got set for it.

If instead of muting feed notifications you blocked the feed no problem. If you went into the phone settings and blocked notifications for the entire app then you'll still get messages but won't be notified that they arrived.
