Yes,  I wouldn't be at all surprised.

" Several UK water companies have faced significant fines, penalties, or restrictions for pollution incidents and failures regarding dirty water between 2022 and 2025.

Major companies penalized include Thames Water, Anglian Water, South West Water, Yorkshire Water, Northumbrian Water, and Southern Water."

Yes,  he was asked that,  and he had not been abroad.
Thank you.  We're fortunate to be in the North-West.  Of course, give them time...!

Latest I've read says it wasn't actual cholera but some other bacteria they'll maybe need to rename now -  Non-toxigenic Vibrio cholerae

This is the trouble with loads of different opinions,  even expert ones.  We don't know what to believe in the end.

According to what I have just seen,  this so-called 'Non-toxic'  variety is not lethal,  it said it just causes 'mild enteritis.'
This was not so with that old chap.  He died.

See  below:

No, non-toxigenic Vibrio cholerae is not the same as the disease cholera.
While both are caused by the Vibrio cholerae bacterium, true cholera is an acute, life-threatening diarrheal disease caused specifically by toxigenic strains (usually O1 or O139) that produce cholera toxin.
Non-toxigenic strains cause, at most, mild gastroenteritis.

Ah so same bacteria different outcomes. In that case where it came from is still the biq question. Well not so much where as that is pretty much known to be "not here" it is more a question of how did this old bloke contact it.

I suppose that there are probably worse deaths than dying of rampant diarrhoea!
