Today, 22/12/25, I have received a letter from the NHS. DATED 12/12;25, it advertised me of an appointment on the 18th!,
Thank you for the days, the days you gave me

Wait till they start issuing fines for missed appointments....

The doctors certainly send texts. I'm not sure if the Hospital does here or not.

Doctors are a lot smaller so it's possible it actually matters but with the way delays usually go it probably just means that somebody wont be waiting as long past their appointment time as usual

It's very difficult if the NHS makes an appointment for you if you weren't expecting it. They seem to think we do nothing else in our lives except wait on them.

Some do just that for the rest of theirs...

There have been some serious delays round here of the post.  I can imagine that doctors' appointments by mail can easily come too late for many patients.  We are fortunate that appointments are received by email.
No lazy postmen.  Actually, I have heard that the Post Office is having problems recruiting posties now.  Perhaps the job is a little underpaid or the work is overwhelming.

It's also possible that some of the work force are off ill with this nasty flu bug. That would leave them short handed and a backlog would build up.

On a loosely related matter, as you may recall my MiL passed away several months ago.  Naturally, my wife contacted as many people as possible over the following few weeks by church announcement, phone calls, letters etc of the news.  Naturally, one or two will have slipped through the net despite our best efforts.

Every few days we naturally nip to her empty flat to check all is ok and pick up the post.

What befuddles us is the Christmas  cards they have been sent to my deceased MiL from people who not only has my wife spoken to, but who actually attended the funeral.  🤷🏻♂️

One (from my lost since deceased FiL - (1982), a decade before I even met my future wife) from his Masonic lodge actually included a £20 note to his widow ... ie my MiL.
