Those petitions

I'm guessing we've all signed some of those parliamentary petitions then ages later had emails saying debated.
I imagine most do what I usually do which is shrug and delete them as their only real purpose is usually to embarrass the government as we all know they are very unlikely to change anything.

Well today or maybe yesterday I had one back on digital ids. As I am interested I did open it rather than just delete from the title line. I even scanned down it and noticed a video clip. Even more surprising I opened it to have a quick look. After a couple of minutes I wondered how long it would run. Well..........

Gobsmacked.

Fancy that! I deleted without looking because normally the civil service replies initially by describing the very problem being complained about, and if there's a debate it's usually MPs telling us how wonderful they are and hardly considering the problem being complained about.

So it's good to see MPs discussing it for four hours, although one must understand that a Westminster Hall discussion won't change anything. In this case I think petitioners don't want anything changed.

Perhaps they stretched it out til the bar was open?
